I think my Favorite RPG is probably either Final Fantasy 3(6) or Chrono Trigger. A couple of old classics that had all the elements of great games; story, evolving character plots, solid combat and menu systems and a great soundtrack. FF3(6) also had one of, if not THE, greatest videogame villian of all time in Kefka.

Fallout and the elder scrolls series's because with the two series you get the magic and swords as well as the HUGE guns and overpowering power armor

Since I can count on one hand the RPG games that held my interest for more than maybe ten hours, I'm going to have to say Morrowind. I played it for a good year straight and have gone back from time to time in the five years since.

Mass Effect.

Can't wait for the next one...(hopefully, they will release another book to tide things over from now until first half of 2010)

And also...

Phantasy Star IV (practically raised me :p)
Shining Force 1-2
Suikoden 1-3
Star Ocean 2
Final Fantasy Tactics
Breath of Fire 3
Xenogears

Yeah... I'm sort of a RPG-aholic >.>

Mhm,I'd say KotoR and Fallout 2 for WRPG and the Golden Sun series, Tales of Symphonia and The World Ends with you for JRPG.
In terms of Golden Sun I'd say, that GS2 had the superior parts of the storyline, but GS1 had a better gameplay. (In GS2 the world is just so big and the expanations where to go are so shallow, that you sometimes don't know where to go next).
I also want to mention Valkyria Chronicles, which is just awesome, but more of a stategy game.

As someone whose favorite genre is RPG, it's hard to choose. I suppose my favorites in no particular order are Baldur's Gate, Tales of Symphonia, Morrowind, Knights of the Old Republic, and Tales of Symphonia. Final Fantasy VI might be up there if it was less long and less forcing-me-to-take-time-to-level-characters-outside-of-the-normal-path-the-story-takes.

FFVII, Golden Sun, Fire Emblem. Those are my favorites, if we're counting JRPG's. But I think we're not so discrimanative to not include other games just cause they're Japanese. Nah, just kidding, it's just games, no racism involved... Unless we're talking RE5 and 4.

I'm torn between Arx Fatalis (great atmosphere, nice and unusual story, first-person viewpoint), Gothic 1 (2 was better gameplay-wise but worse in atmosphere) and Spellforce 1 (+ addons, a mix of RPG and RTS but very well told story and lots and lots of sidequests).

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, KOTOR I, and Neverwinter Nights (+original expansions)

Would also mention Tales of Symphonia, which was the best RPG on the gamecube.

Oblivion is in my favorites...I don't play many RPGs, though. Gonna try Fallout and Fallout 2 soon, though. =D
