Here's some music to set the mood (From the very game i will be discussing):
To me, it was Metal Gear Solid. I had played one or two games before then, but this was the one that got me into the hobby full-time. The lead character, the cast, the villains, setting, weapons, gameplay...all of it was perfect. I was still quite young at the time, so i wasn't able to save Meryl until many years later when i actually knew how to survive the torture sequence...but i was able to finish it nonetheless, and even if i couldn't understand some parts i still loved it!

But, all good things must come to an end eventually: I still love and cherish this game, and Snake is still practically my hero, but..i soon realized that there were other games out there, other adventures i could have outside of the alaskan fox archipelago and whole other worlds that needed me to take the role of hero for them. I still hold a copy of this game alongside it's two elder siblings, and will be getting the fourth soon enough..but i realize now that once i do play number 4, that will be the end of my hero and his adventures for good.

...excuse me a moment, i have something in my eye.

I've played games all my childhood casually (Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Pokemon, Sonic, etc) but the first actual game to make me pursue it was Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness. Considered the worst in its series, and a total accidental purchase, it actually made me fall in love with gaming.

Since then, series such as Kingdom Hearts, SSX, Final Fantasy, Thief and the suchlike fully formed my passion for gaming. Now I have several titles to add to my favourites.

Man do I miss that feeling of wonder and anticipation for games... I just don't feel it anymore. Closest thing now is the hype for Skyrim but even with all the love I seem to be accumulating for that game, it just doesn't reach the level of batshit-crazy excitement I had for games back then...
Just wait until they finally announce Kingdom Hearts 3...I think that feeling will come back to some degree. ;)
Nah... Kingdom Hearts just doesn't do it anymore for me... it already lost a little bit of appeal with KH2, which I considered inferior to KH1 (WHY DID YOU REMOVE THE ARENA, IT WAS THE BEST THING OF KH1) and they have screwed me over WAY too much with this portable bullshit.

I can understand 1 game for a portable, but HOW MANY GAMES ALREADY? I've completely lost the thread of the story, I can no longer follow it.

That and adding the super cheesy community KH has... It's just teenagers and girls screaming over their favourite X-whatever character. Yeah, thanks, but no thanks.

Jak and Daxter, one of the most original games of all time, first free-roam series too I think, I loved it, good gameplay, good story and damn funny/ awesome characters.

EDIT: Jak 2 and Jak 3 are in my top favorite games still, we need a Jak 4!

I am almost ashamed to admit it, but my first love of gaming was Sheep.

That little gem from around 2000. I played that game to death and I still think it is one of the most funniest games I have ever played. There is something so humerous about a sheep, and that is just exploited perfectly in this game...

I'm not even sure if anyone around here has even played, or remembered, Sheep.

Kingdom Hearts.

Bought the game on a whim at around the age of 7-10 (I seriously can't remember), but that game made me who I am today, and now I've played every game in the series. It's my childhood, just like a lot of people's would have been Zelda or FFVII.
*high five

This game taught me how to be a good person :) Always gave me a smile on my face. Was the first game I owned on PS2 too!

Without question one of the best games of all time.
Ah, I was about to say this, but I think I'm gonna go with Pokemon Yellow. I was in love with that game.

"Cybernoid 2" on my good ole commodore 128

The music was just kick-ass like no other in-game-music before...and the game kicked my ass equally hard as well (damn, was it difficult)
Remember I often had it running just for the music (cause playing it really got me nowhere- though i really tried)
But fell in love nevertheless - so my 1st-gaming-love was a pretty abusive relationship.how fitting

Rugrats on the ps1.

The entire game was completely substandard, even by playstation 1 standards. But there was one level, right at the very end. You play as the rugrats spin off of godzilla. I forget his name. But basically, you smash through an open world city, (really ambitious stuff for that time) until you get to the town square. Every building was destructible, you could smash cars, people, anything. But yeah, you get to the town square. He puts on a top hat, and gets a cane to do a phat dance number. Good times.
