What's your go-to game when you have friends over?

Pretty self-explanatory. When you have your friends over and you're just kinda hanging out, and you decide to play something, what do you play?

The answer for me shifts about as much as "What's your favorite song," but right now it's Nintendoland. Specifically, Mario Chase or the Luigi's Mansion one (I hate that one. My friends love it though.) Smash Bros was up there for a while, but now no one wants to play with me, because I win every time. (Not that I'm bragging; I get absolutely stomped whenever I play with the people at my school's video game club. I'm stuck in grey area...)

When people come over specifically to play games, we usually end up playing TF2. It's free, cartoony, runs on pretty much any laptop made after 2010, and caters to all skill levels. My MLG PRO #GOML friends play as sniper or spy, and my friends who rarely touch games play pyro or engi turtle. And it's a lot easier to convince a non-gamer to download a free game than spend $20 on something they'll almost never play.

So, how about you and your friends?

It varies on the friends but the one game that we have consistently played for years and we still play for hours now the few chances we get to meet up for beers and games at one of our houses is Crash Team Racing that game perfected karting as far as we are concerned we have tried a few of the Mario Karts over the years and Double Dash was probably the most successful at holding our attention for more tan just a few sessions but CTR is the de facto go to game.

We enjoy other games (and genres ofc) but none have lasted as long as CTR with us.

It changes from time to time. When my cousin visits we always go with the Nazi Zombies mode in Call of Duty: World at War. Before that it used to be TimeSplitters: Future Perfect and the Return of the King games.

With my girlfriend it's either Resident Evil 5 or Borderlands, with the Arkham games tying in pretty close.

Earth Defense Force 2025 is our current go to. It's a blast to play despite some technical issues and the story is a load of fun to riff on. The four classes in the game also give everyone a nice role to play which is something I like in my Co-op games.

We also have stuff we've been playing since childhood like Crash Team Racing and Super Smash Bros. We also play a lot of different fighting games (Although I suck at pretty much all of them)

I have one specific friend who I play Tales of games when they're over. We try to chip away and play through the whole thing, but the games are so long and we've been seeing each other less and less. Still it's a great game for Co-op play.

Nintendo is still king of the Living Room multiplayer if you ask me. Mario Kart, Smash Bro's, Mario party, those heinous karaoke and dance games.

I'm sure the other two big names have equivalencies but theres just something about the bright sparkly colours that when everyone is half drunk makes them much more accessible to play.

Have friends over? What is this? I seem to recall something like that from the distant past... oh lord it was so long ago... Actually if I had the ability to have friends over we'd probably have a weekly D&D game going rather than a video game. Everything else we'd play is online now and while there's quite a few TVs with various consoles hooked up to them (and one from every generation from NES to now except WiiU, TG16 and the CDI) we probably wouldn't play much unless it was say UFC on Dreamcast (hands down best technical fighting game EVER) Crazy Taxi (the original with Offspring playing) or maybe some form of Mario Kart, Smash Bros. or a Tekken Tag tournament.
But that'd be after the D&D game ended... if it didn't go past midnight, which some games strangely have. (So much so that we had to impose a time limit on sessions, otherwise we'd play through dawn... those were the days.)

Fighting games!! What's more easy-to-pickup than that?! Tekken, Street fighters, KOF, Blazblue, DOA, Fight nights, Virtue fighters, blah blah...

Sport games are good too, if they know what they're doing. I recently got some Mario games, so those are good too.

Playstation all stars, soul calibur 2 (we actually start up the ps2 for that), and Tekken tag 2.

It's ironic, we all grew up with street fighter and mortal kombat but nobody wants to play them now.

It's usually SSBB, though after I got a multi-tap Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex for the PS2 has become a go-to game.

Not only is GitS:SAC a good SP game, it's also got a pretty good MP to it.

Mario Kart Double Dash, Borderlands 2 or Left 4 Dead 2.

Though last time a friend came over we ended up playing hotseat Masters of Orion II for sixteen hours straight.

"Shouldn't we eat something or maybe go to sleep?"
"Why? Now shut up and play your turn."

Its kinda shifted as I age and the people I hang out with change. When I was young it was Kirby's Air Ride and SSBM. Once I hit the mid teens it was mostly Halo 3 and whatever CoD game was current. As me and my friends got board of FPS games we moved to LoL and Guitar/DJ hero. Sadly for the past year its been a whole lotta nothing as between jobs and school no one has time to hang out :/. God I miss being 16.

Depends on the friends. Some people will happily have a game of Dota, others would have no idea what to make of it and would rather play Halo.

Diablo 3. On ps3. It's easy to play. It's co-op. It's fun. And you don't need to know anything about gaming or the story to jumo in and start killing things.

Also Dragons crown.
