I hold my breath for as long as I can, then drink a big gulp of water before going back to breathing normally. I've used that method since I was in elementary school, and it always seems to work well for me.

Hope and pray that I don't have them for the rest of my life. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Osborne_%28hiccups%29]

Not sure why but drinking out of the wrong side of a cup usually works for me. It's currently at around a 90% success rate. Just be careful as it's easy to make a mess.
What the heck is the 'wrong side' of a cup?
The opposite side of where you'd normally drink out of. The back part of the cup.....the part that would be close to the bridge of your nose when drinking regularly. Drinking out of it means leaning way far forward and looking like an idiot but for me, at least, it usually works to get rid of hiccups.

Inhale so deeply that it almost hurts my lungs, which expands them enough to hold the diaphragm in place, which stops the hiccup spasms.

Always works for me.

But... Cups are circular? The same on both sides? I am confused...

Drinking a big gulp of water has cured me every single time. Perhaps it's different for each person, but as a youth I never understood all these complicated "techniques" to curing the hiccups. Just drink a glass of water, I say.

I go out and murder a passerby, it's a great family friendly strategy.

I just drink some water and wait them out. They always last for about 10 minutes before finally subsiding. I also try to belch a little. That helps for me.

Calm the fuck down.

Usually I find that hiccups just go away if you breath deeply and focus on whats goin' on in your viscera. Control your muscles and make them stop jerking you around.

1: i empty my lungs. then hold my breath. its really hard to hold it more than 5 secs but when you let go and take a huge breath it really works.

2. i drink from the opposite end of the glass. not the end where you normally drink but the other end. a glass of water is enough

1) Drink Water
This almost always works. If it doesn't:

2) Spoonful of Sugar
This always works. It has never failed me a single time. Have no idea when I started doing it though.

I take a deep breath, sit up straight, and hold it until I feel my diaphragm stop spazzing. It works every time in just a few seconds. I can't think of a more efficient method short of getting the wind knocked out of you. I would imagine that would instantly stop your diaphragm.

My technique is one I read about after some medical students at some top university came up with it.

Inhale as much air as you can in one go and hold your breath for 10 seconds.
Without exhaling, inhale more air and hold for 10 seconds.
Again without exhaling, inhale more air and hold for 5 seconds.

This will work every time as long as you inhaled enough and held it for long enough.

I do not think i have had hiccups for years
People actually get that so much that you have to try fixing it?
I remember trying the water backwards thing, no idea if it worked
