Good question, I suppose that I like Western RPGs the most as of late, just wish there was maybe one that I could play Co-op on.

My least favourite genre would probably have to be FPS, the genre itself isn't bad but there's a serious lack of innovation in it.

Love everything, except JRPGs (don't hate them, just never played them) and clickfests like Dragon Age, WoW, etc.
How is Dragon Age a clickfest?
Inquisition is if you don't toggle auto attack on. As for WoW, I have no idea. MOBAs and RTS are far more clicky than either of them.

My favorite genres are RPGs (mainly Western), 4X/RTS/TBS games, shooters, action-adventure games and horror games. Anything with a big focus on atmosphere or story I'll probably enjoy as well, no matter the genre.

My least favorite genres are MOBAs, MMOs, SP twitch shooters, platformers (besides Mirror's Edge and a couple of indies), sports games (except for racing, that's cool), music games, and JRPGs that don't have the word Souls in their title. I've still had a bunch of fun with some of these games though, especially when you've got friends coming over playing co-op, and there's always exceptions like Mirror's Edge.

Uhhh...I like to level.

I like to shoot.

And I like fantasy creatures and monsters.

You'd think I'd adore Borderlands but eh, it's alright. Kind of a love-hate relationship with it to be completely honest.

Favourite is a toss up between rpg and fps. Could not pick one of the two for the life of me.

My least favourite is racing simulator. Is that a genre? I'd say puzzle, but I can enjoy puzzle games, realistic driving mechanics are frustrating and boring to me. Let's play Rocket League and be silly.

Me too. I hate JRPG because they are too animish, girly and emo. if more JRPG are like dark soul and bloodborne then i may not hate them much.
Nah, Dark Souls was way too girly and emo for a hard, manly man like me.

I mean Jesus, it starts with your character sulking like a ***** in an asylum cell until a knight in shining armour gives you the key to get out. I want to play a real, manly protagonist who gets out by himself.
Why would you leave? Are you saying an asylum cell is not good enough for your sensitive tastes?

Genres I despise:
Least favourite implies they are still among my favourites.

Shooter RPGs
Not action RPGs, but shooter RPGs. Third and first person alike these "games" are simply shooters, and piss-poor ones at that. They are not RPGs because the programmers have only given you the good, AKA BLATANTLY CORRECT CHOICE and the stupid evil choice. Not that they actually make any difference. And yes, this includes the Elder Scrolls.
Does it include the Deus Ex games as well?

My favourite genres tend to be management/strategy - something that lets me take my time. Most of my individual favourite games are FPSs though, coz they're the most lavish.

My least favourite genres are either aRPGs (yay, click a tiny thing to death...click a billion tiny things to death.) or JRPGs (gratuitous gasping! Overly ornate shit)

I dunno...I really like JRPGs but they don't get made too often anymore. Things like Dragon Quest VII, Bravely Default, etc with fast-paced, turn-based combat. When it comes to my least favorite, I'd say first person shooters. When I play a good FPS, it can be great but I wouldn't grab every new FPS that hits the market. Wolfenstein: The New One was fantastic and despite the hate they get, I've liked the few CoD campaigns I've gone through but I wouldn't get one NEW, God No.

If by "least favorite" the OP meant "the genre I hate" than I guess that would be tower-defense. I've never played a TD that I liked.

My favourite would have to be the hybrid of: Action/RPG/Strategy/Simulation/Sandbox
Or in other words: Mount and Blade Warband.

My least favourite would be fighting games. I've just never been into them. I suppose I liked Street Fighter II back in the day, but I was younger, and it was less about enjoying the mechanics of a fighting game for what it was and more about "holly shit, I can hit you with this guys stretchy arms from all the way over here?!" Not being condescending by the way. I'm just saying I couldn't appreciate fighting games for what they were back them. Now I can, and they're just not my thing.

[HEADING=2]Favorite:[/HEADING]
RPG (lean towards wrpg, but jrpg's are fine too)
TBS (x-com and civilization)
TPS (socom II, vanquish, uncharted, gears of war)
(^in that order)

[HEADING=2]don't like[/HEADING]
realistic sports games [rocket league and nba street are different/exceptions, I love those]
fighting games [just get soooo bored with most fighting games, I don't like the 2D style at all, FF:dissidia is the only fighting game I've ever liked, and that was almost more rpg/action then straight up fighting game.]
horror games I just don't see the point in them, you either can't do anything (amnesia dark descent) to really "win" or beat the monster thing/or the story is just pointless and I just don't see the point in continuing at all (which is weird, because I love horror movies, but can't stand them as games.)

Favorite:

-Jrpgs, It's like playing an anime!
-2D fighting games like Blazblue and Guilty Gear, I love tourneys and competition and the journey to improvement, love helping new players, love crushing arrogant people, it's all great and you make money too if you're good.
-over the top hack and slash like Bayonetta, it's basically the middle groubd between a fighter and a jrpg, less depth than a fighter and less over the top animations than a jrpg but in exchange you get greater control over what you can do.
-visual novels, these I somewhat more recently got into to this degree but they're basically another piece of the media mix anime and manga belong to so basically glorious.

Least favorite:

Sports and driving games, if I wanted to do sports or drive I can in real life, I play games to do things one can't do in reality only.

Favorite? I'm stumped there.

As for least-favorite, I think I'd go with clickers, like cow clicker, or cookie clicker. If we're shooting for our least favorites, I might as well go for the lowest hanging fruit.

In my 26 years of life, I've played a lot of games from various different genres. I've liked a ton. I've been surprised by quite a few, and I've given a lot of them a try. But as with all people... I do have my preferences and there are games that just CLICK with me and I'll never put the controller/keyboard down once I really get going.

FIGHTING GAMES! I've always been a fan of fighting games. As long as there's a good control scheme and a diverse roster of characters, I'll find my mains, find my muse, find my arcade stick, and get to fighting. There's something about the high octane, high execution style of the fighting games that keeps me interested. Even if I'm clearly not the best, even if I can barely pass two rounds in tournaments, even if my win-loss record is very spotty at best, even if it takes me a while to get a grip of things, I'm always comin' back for more!

RACING GAMES: Get behind the wheel of a cool car in any setting and lets RACE! I love high speeds, and I am more biased to sci-fi racers, but whether we're in an arcade or at home picking a vehicle on the controller, I'm ready to put the petal to the metal once again!

BEAT-EM-UPS! Arcade beat-em-ups are a niche genre these days. It's easy to make a very shallow one where all you have to do is hit the attack button till the other dude falls over with little other depth to engagement and its easy to get into one that just feels... "Cheap". The good arcade beat-em ups have depth, and a feeling of satisfaction on playing them that just hardly can be matched.

By Extension...

SPECTACLE FIGHTERS! I consider the spectacle fighters to be a spiritual evolution of sorts to the beat-em-up. They tend to have combat systems that lean themselves to exploring what works, what doesn't work, and have gratifying feedback on htting enemies with the right moves. Once you master it, you can feel good... and look good while doing it. OH YEAH!

Oh and side note... I am biased toward SUPER-HEROES!

Ok... genre's I am more picky about...

FIRST/THIRD PERSON SHOOTERS! Yes I know there's this "spunkgargleweewee" ahem.. genre that we got from Yahtzee based on FPSes... which pretty much describes a mainstream "modern" military FPS. Yeah, I'm no stranger to shooting games, having grown up with this genre like I have my favorites... but I like FPS games that do something different.. unusual. Either they harken back to older days without regenerating health and waypoints or they introduce mechanics toally off-the-beat from your usual shooter game. That... or put me in a MECH. THEN WE CAN TALK

PLATFORMERS! I'm a sucker for a good Metroidvania or Sonic game... or a game that lets you play with some local buddies. Otherwise, just another game to pass the time.

WRPGs/JRPGS They're both Role-Playing Games to me, regardless of their country of origin. I'll like some... and some won't hold my attention for long, depending on... circumstances or aspects within the game. It could be anything, from the settings, to the player character(s) to the story, I'm open to either, but I'm still picky about both.

And now genres I either don't like or don't care for.

Dating Sims. WHY DO PEOPLE PLAY THESE?! Why are they so popular in Japan? What is the appeal behind them? I don't like love stories in general and now we have an entire genre of games dedicated to this?! AND ITS SUPER POPULAR?

Puzzle Games. My brain for some reason doesn't function too well with a lot of puzzle games... but a lot of them like Tetris, Bejweled, and Puyo Puyo are well designed, simple and addictive. I'm just not that good at them. *Grumble Grumble*

Raising Sims. Just... boring to me. Then again, people play these games when they want to relax... so I see the appeal.

Realistic Sports Sims. I'll just play sports in real life.

I give almost any genre a chance. By which I mean I tend to judge a game by its own merits and not strictly by genre, however there ar a few pigeonholes I rarely venture into, as well as a few I'll more than likely pick up first:

Likely:
RPG
FPS
TPS
Adventure
Action

Less Likely:
MOBA (except for HOTS, I can't get into any of these games)
Card Game (I played Hearthstone long enough to get the mount for WoW, but if I am spending money on cards I want the real thing)
Sports (I'll play NHL from time to time and maybe Madden once in a while)
Racing (Burnout was the last racing style I enjoyed)

My favorite genres are probably:
- Adventure games
- RPGs (Particularly those that really give you control over your character)
- Usually anything story based, particularly if it takes place in a fictional world
- Mecha games (That count?)

Least favorite? Not a lot of creativity here:
- Sports games
- Racing
- Straight FPS
- RTS
- MOBA

I play games to actually do things, not listen to an idiot drone on telling their cliche, utterly idiotic story. And games are a visual medium, show, don't tell.
Sorry, but this is a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

That's not at all what "Show, don't tell" means. What the phrase means is don't tell the audience what characters are like, or that a character did something cool, or that the graveyard is creepy. Make the audience believe whatever you want to get across without flat out telling them.

For example, don't say "Jim is a hilarious guy". Show Jim being funny, write Jim in such a way that the audience finds him funny. Don't tell the reader that Ana Steele is brave. Show them that she's brave by her actions (she isn't).

Don't tell the audience that "They enter a spooky graveyard." Describe the graveyard in such a way that they find it creepy.

This is advice that originated in writing, so it certainly doesn't require a visual aid. You can definitely "Show" with visuals, but you can do just as well with well written dialogue or narration.

MOST:

-Action/Adventure or Action/RPG (particularly those that emphasize exploration and have a strategic elements in combat, i.e. Dark Souls, Zelda, "Metroidvanias," Shovel Knight)
-RPGs (with good stories)
-Action/Beat-em-up (i.e. old-school arcade brawlers and Hyrule Warriors)

LEAST:

-RTS (I suck at these; if I'm gonna play a strategy game, give me something turn-based like Civ; fast-pacing and micro-management work well for me in games on their own, but mixing them together stresses me out)
-Extremely technical fighting games (I like Smash Bros and old-school Street Fighter, but something like Guilty Gear or Blazblue? I don't have time for that)
-MMORPGs (World of Warcraft ate my senior year of college...never again...)
