Short story behind this.

Spent most of today (Thurdsay 11th of November) waiting for something to happen, mostly it just rained some more. So I sat down on my PSP and started playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite hoping today would finally be the day that I could solo the golden Rajang.

It did not go well.

To be fair I had not been playing the game for a few weeks mostly because the last time I played it I tried Rajang again and got my ass handed to me, again. Evidently I stopped playing because I began to dread going against Rajang again.

End of story.

Now boss fights have been a cornerstone of gaming scince the dawn of the arcades, Its hard to find any game that does not have at least one boss fight in it. (casual games excluded)

So im asking, What boss, if any, kicks (or kicked) your ass so hard so frequently that you dread having to go back to it. It does not have to be a boss that was hard for everyone, it can be one that only you found painful. Images and videos, while not required, can help.

As mentioned above, for me, Rajang in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

PLEASE NOTE: Bosses from rom-hack games and 'I Wanna Be The Guy' do not count as they were made to induce as much pain as possible. And if it appears on the Tvtropes Hopeless Boss Fight page (link below) it does not count.

Omega Pirate from Metroid Prime, on hard mode. The best I could ever do was get him down to half health. He's just a huge SOB and you fight him in a relatively small space, and parts of the floor hurt you, and he's calls his buddies to kick your ass while he goes and replaces his massive armour plates.

I know that my brother dreads the Bruce the Shark battle in Viewtiful Joe.

As for me, Tabuu of SSBB on Intense Boss Battles mode. That goddamn little yellow whip thing murders me almost every time.

colonel radec in killzone 2, insanely long boss fight done in sections, in addition to having a predator seque cloak that allows him to sneak up behind you and knife you in the back (resulting in instant death) he keeps sending in troops to separate you from your NPC buddy, and the room your fighting in has very little cover, plus said eneimes throw grenades and are much harder to kill due to them being radecs elite troops

it took me several attempts over a week to finally kill him, and I fear how difficult he'll be now considering i'm playing the game again on elite difficulty.

Chykka in Metroid Prime 2. There are plenty of bosses harder than this, but Chykka is certainly the most durable boss in the whole series given where in the game he appears. He/it comes with multiple phases, he has a mandatory missile requirement to damage and you still have to worry about Dark Aether's toxic atmosphere the whole way through, not to mention the dreaded purple bog water he tries to knock you into regularly once he gets his wings. If he didn't drop loads of energy in his third phase and some during his first phase he'd be unbeatable in Hard Mode IMO.

I love the whole Prime series, but my thumbs ache whenever I think about dealing with this boss again. Maybe it's less of a strain in the Trilogy version?

Yiazmat, the last mark in Final Fantasy XII. 50 million HP... the battle itself takes hours... they let you save in between health bars... Maybe not the hardest boss skill-wise, but the sheer determination required to kill him is unbelievable. I still haven't managed it, probably never will. :X

I still consider the final boss fight in Doom 2 to be the most unfair boss fight of all time.

The only way to defeat it is to shoot a rocket at a small hole while a pillar is rising. If the pillar gets to the top, then you've missed your shot.

Did I mention that enemies are constantly spawning in around you, including the dreaded Arch-Vile who can take off a massive 50 HP with a single attack... an attack that is functionally impossible to dodge in this level since there's not much cover to hide behind and being out of his line-of-sight is the only way to avoid the attack.

Oh, and the floor around the pillar is toxic.

It's one of the few boss fights I have never, ever finished.

More recently was the final fight in GUN. Your opponent is completely bulletproof and explosive weapons do minimal damage. You have to throw explosive weapons at geysers around the level to make them explode to significantly weaken him... oh, and he has a really bad-ass shotgun that will make mincemeat of your defenses very, very quickly. I would have likely beaten him eventually, but the game froze on me and my last save game was a few levels before it, so I just watched the ending on YouTube and declared victory.

I have two candidates: Alatreon from Monster Hunter Tri and Mogenor from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

The final boss of Gothic 4 also deserves a dishonourable mention for that one bloody attack that covers the whole damn battlefield.

Any boss fight in Resident Evil 4 except the first one against the big ogre thing whose namr I've forgotten. I hate boss fights in Resident Evil 4 and 5.

Also Bogimoray in Lost Odyssey.

Any boss from I wanna be The Guy. Go ahead, just try and avoid every one of their attacks on the first go.

The one I thinking of at the momenet is Alatreon in Monster Hunter Tri. Its take a good team to defeat Alatreon in which in my case I usually end up in a bad team. Dullahan from Golden Sun The Lost Age is also intimidating as well (I can never defeat him due to his annoying attack Djinn storm).

"It" from Resident Evil 4. Throughout the whole battle you're treating to his breathing sound while trying to navigate through a maze where at any instant he could reach down, grab you, and break your neck. Then in his second form, he gains the ability to cut you in half.

"El Gigante" is the name you're looking for.

Most dreaded fight was years ago with Amelissan from the end of the Baldur's Gate 2 expansion. I had a full equipped and pretty high level party, was prepared and i still got my partymembers and eventually my own rear end handed to me on a platter.

Lich King in ICC in World of Warcraft. That fight has been beating my ass weekly for 6 months now.
