Halo 3 because people will always be playing at all times, forever.
That's what they said about Halo 2 as well.
People still play halo 2. The escapist recently did an article it. It was called "Want more freinds on xbox live? Stop playing Halo 2!".

Or something like that.
Really? I thought everyone that played Halo 2 migrated over to Halo 3.

Halo 3, because nothing is more fun than playing Grifball while having Electric Six blare out of your TV.

Also, Tom Clancy's HAWX. My friends and I usually run something akin to Operation Red Flag or Russians vs Americans. Nothing better than zooming around in an Eagle while the Aphids and Sidewinders fly.

Team Fortress 2, I play with some friends and have a few laughs.

That, or Gears 2.

Killzone 2. Nothing like unloading a clip of LMG or buck of shotgun into someones oncoming face.

Call of Duty 2. My friends and I get together and play it once and week and we always have a lot of laughs.

Probably Cod 4, followed closely by Little Big Planet and Bad Company.

Part of it was because of the assault rifles, part of it the maps, but there are still some full Halo 2 games. Hard to find good ones though.

Well I prefer Left 4 Dead to any other multiplayer right now. I tried Team Fortress 2, but it just didn't hold my interest enough to warrant a purchase.

Though I currently don't have any other multiplayer games on my computer...

TF2 at the moment mostly.
Last week overtook CoD4 in the game I played the most that week.

Almost all games I play are multiplayer though, and I'm playing about 6 regularly.

Well...My favourite is Section 8...Yes I know total rip off of HALO...Well I actually like it because the suits are better than HALO's...Well what I like about it: Well instead of a vast variety of weapons, Section 8 has exactly the opposite...the game is focused on the ability of the suits and their nifty little gadgets :) I liked the vehicle section a lot more than the one in HALO...well the idea is kinda fun, especially the robot suit...your are already in a suit why not jump in a bigger one :D

Right now... Garry's Mod. I just got it a few weeks ago, and the numerous gametypes are all quite fun.

Timesplitters 2/Future Perfect. - 4 player, all on one TV (optional makeshift sheet splitscreen). Weapons are well balanced and varied. Fun game modes (Thief is genius) and big point level editor.

my favorite multiplayer games are games where multiple people can play at once, even better if they can have 4 players locally AND play online.

Namely HALO series. The Super Smash Bros series is awesome as well.

I'm gonna have to say Call of Duty 4. Up until a few months ago, my blood pressure would spike like no other whenever I got killed by cheap crap like martyrdom, frag x3, last stand, M16s, etc. But after putting about 16 days worth of time into the multiplayer, none of those game breaking perks really bother me anymore. At the end of the day, no matter how random and unbalanced it might be, Call of Duty 4 is one shooter that will forever stand out to me as being one incredible multiplayer experience.

Runner up would have to go to either Quake Live or EverQuest 2.
