What's Your Opinion on Stoner Humor?

I hope I am not incurring wrath with this question, but it has been playing on my mind for quite some time. First of all, I do not smoke marijuana. I never have, nor do I see any real need to. I've never even taken a hit. However, I find stoner films to be hysterical. I then got to thinking of the irony: here I am, a person who has never gotten high on anything other than life or caffeine, and I find such things funny.

So really, I was just wondering, what are some opinions on such comedy, or even marijuana use at all?

Yeah, pretty much this. It's an easy out for screenwriters who are too lazy to come up with jokes other than:

JOHN IS SO BAKED HE FALLS DOWN THE STAIRS. BOB LAUGHS HYSTERICALLY

I mean, both of those films had problems, but the problems didn't stem from the jokes.

Depends how you define it. Seth Rogan films are all absolutely terrible without exception. However, people often try to say Aqua Teen Hunger Force is stoner humour, and I find that just lovely.

Not a fan on stoner movies generally, aside from Cheech and Chong. For instance, I thought Pineapple Express was an amazing action movie that was let down by too much stoner bullshit that thought it was really funny.

But this dislike is pretty much just a part of my dislike of stoners and stoner culture altogether.
I love to smoke weed, I smoke quite a lot of weed in fact, but I only say this to give context to my previous statement. Otherwise, you would never really hear me say such a thing.
It's fine to love to smoke weed, but it pisses me off when you won't shut the fuck up about how cool you are because you're smoking weed. Do it by all means, but don't make it your personality.

The things stoned people say, I generally find pretty funny, but stoner comedy? No.

EDIT: I assume you would count Harold and Kumar as "stoner humour".

I'm not sure how to define stoner humor now. I mean, when they go on and on about weed it drags on and I find it annoying, but on the other hand I've loved movies like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, The Big Lebowski, and Pineapple Express, which I'm pretty sure are all stoner films.

Also, not that I wanted one before, but I will now never be buying an htc Trophy. Because if you want to make me open random youtube tabs to find out which one is playing my music, pause it, watch some fucking shitty ad about some fucking shitty cell phone before posting, then you don't deserve my money. I've been spending less and less time on this site anyway, but this is ridiculous.

Actually, the code was the same as last time, I'm gonna circumvent the fucking system and type in the same one. Not only is the system horrifically annoying, it also accomplishes nothing. Aren't captchas supposed to stop spammers? Because this is infinitely more annoying, and spam bots were both hilarious and not that common. I at least tolerated captcha, because hey, you guys were stopping spam. This is stopping spam and replacing it with your own, and I will ***** about it each time I have to deal with it and never need to complain about the same thing twice, it's that annoying.

in order to be a stoner you have to be so stoned that you don't even notice the difference between stoner comedy and the rest.
actually i hate it when they exaggerate the effects of the drug for comic effect, its misleading

We need a "Stoner" comedy where all the humor is mined from the main characters crippling weed addiction. I have smoked weed and I never saw any purple unicorns and nothing I said was witty and at worst sometimes fell asleep! Where is that in the movies?

The Big Lebowski a stoner film?i don't think so,it more closely resembles a film noir (albeit light hearted in nature)

anyway,back on topic:as a whole i don't mind stoner humor,pineapple express and harold and kumar both being my favorite movies of the sub genre;i can't really comment on the Seth Rogan films though,because i haven't seen enough to form an opinion about his work

Was I the only one who found Pineapple Express kind of awkward? For the most part it was all like "Legalize weed! Wooooh I'm so stoned and so funny!". But then on two occasions for maybe ten seconds it would be like "Hey kids, marijuana is a drug and sh*t can have consequences", and then half a second later it would go back to laugh at the stoned dudes. To me it felt odd and awkward, so much so that I'm suspecting I read something into the movie that wasn't there :-S
