I've never cared for the movies, but Mitch Hedburg always seemed like he was stoned on stage, and he was hilarious.
I would like it to go very far away. Is that possible? To make stoner humor go as far away from me as possible?
Requiem for a Dream isn't a stoner movie, its a feature length anti-drug commercial. Is it wrong that I get a chuckle every time I watch this movie with my ex-stoner friends? They all seem to just hate themselves afterward...DeadSp8s said:
If you find something funny, then it's funny. If you don't, then you don't. Personally I believe that a lot of "stoner comedy" is perfectly valid. The over exaggeration of weed consumption can prove to be humorous simply because of the ludicrous nature of it. It actuality, smoking marijuana does not result in such ludicrous events as depicted in these films, but a stoner audience can relate to the way in which films like Pineapple Express convey the steady spiralling of incidents (ie. getting paranoid in the woods).
At the end of the day, stoner comedy does little other than make a joke out of the weed-smoking culture and is intended to be enjoyed by everyone, just like alcohol related films. I abhor alcohol, but can still find it comedic. If you REALLY want to laugh whilst high, then you're better off watching something like Peep Show, or The Ricky Gervais Show; comedy which challenges you on an intellectual level whilst also engaging in humorous reflection on the world as perceived by the disheartened. Or, better yet, just have a real conversation with your friends.
At the end of the day, stoner comedy does little other than make a joke out of the weed-smoking culture and is intended to be enjoyed by everyone, just like alcohol related films. So essentially two people who have posted has admitted to smoking weed while the rest go "Oh I don't smoke but I either: like certain films/am annoyed with all of it/I don't have to get high."
Truth 1: Stoner humor isn't purely based on weed/high references. Any show that is very funny or goofy becomes funnier under the influence, which is the basis of stoner humor. Family Guy, American Dad, Futurama, and anything from Adult swim are some good examples.
Truth 2: Movies are for everyone, but films like The Big Lebowski, Jay & Silent Bob Strike back, and Scary movies 1&2, could be considered true stoner films. I'm a little put-off by any movie that under-handedly advertises that it's for stoners. I didn't find Harold and Kumar or Pineapple express that funny because
Truth 3: Even stoners have standards. Just because one or two clowns run around with a bong (every film labeled "stoner") doesn't mean I'll laugh at it. We're not all idiots that laugh at the most low-brow garbage.

I'm okay with it. My parents seem to enjoy it a lot, though, probably because almost everyone in my family are basically stoners.
Yeah stoners and stoner humor are really stupid and pointless. It has zero intellectual value and I just don't enjoy it.
Depends, sometimes it's hilarious but quite often I don't find it very amusing at all. Come to think of it, most stoners annoy the living shit out of me. What's odd is that I smoke a few joints every day and have been doing so for years, which I suppose makes me a stoner myself. I just don't look or act like it.
In general I don't like them but that's only because none that have followed can compare with the awesomeness that was The Big Lebowski.
