I think it is a fascinating subject that, when you are young, is one of those things that gives you the mind boggling sense of scale and just...the awe of the universe we live in and the rock we are stuck to. I did cover the subject to about GCSE level (age 16) as part of Geography and it was part of that fascination with dinosaurs things that a lot of kids go through (seriously, why do kids love them so much and why can I no longer pronounce things that I was perfectly at ease with at age 11).
Just because it isn't taught to you at school doesn't mean you can't explore for yourself. This is something that annoys the tits off me, that people don't seem to indulge a natural curiosity and learn things just because. "We didn't do it at school" seems like such a lousy excuse. I taught myself a lot of things just because things were so interesting (at the risk of sounding like a crotchety old bat, now I suppose people would rather melt their brain watching "reality" shows on television).
And for those who hate it because of "religious" reasons, I could not possibly comment without getting suspended again. Rest assured I am sighing and rolling my eyes...
