So what I'm asking is, what is the most impressive piece of art you have ever seen? (art being defined as the exploration of human emotions- for example the exploration of fear)
Discworld books... If I really have to explain, it means you've never read them or you have no sense of humor... like a robot.

... you're not a robot, are you?

Purely on the games front for me it's Freedon Fighters on the Gamecube. That game was brilliant. Good Enemies, Good A.I., Decent storyline if not a little far fetched and stolen from red dawn. Fun weapons and some kick ass levels that i can play over and over again. Awesome.

This makes no sense? You want to know what my favourite game is when I look at gaming in an artsy way?
Silent Hill 3. All throughout the game, I wanted to give Heather a big cuddle and tell her everything's going to be ok. She has awesome hair too.
But you gave a film... LET'S GO THROUGH ALL TYPES OF ENTERTAINMENT STYLE MEDIA!
Donnie Darko for films. Watchmen for books.

I am going to go out on a limb and say Team Fortress 2. Why you ask? Because it takes the "by the book" FPS and rips its head off. It takes that adds in some truly creative game modes, very vibrant colors; not just brown and gray but blues, reds, greens etc., and treats team gameplay in ways not seen even in non-FPS games.

Despite his avid atheism, he really had an amazing imagination
Please tell me this doesn't mean what it sounds like it means.
I don't know what you're thinking about, because what I mean is his imagination was so incredibly vivid, he created entire bizarre dreamscapes and alien worlds and underground civilizations, plus the essential Mythos creatures. He didn't directly describe them, but gave you enough to give a sense of dread and awe.
'Cthuhlu slid greasily into the water and gave chase'. Freakishly descriptive, in my opinion. His most full description was for his crowning horror, Great Cthulhu which is described several times in The Call of Cthulhu. A description is never given for Azathoth or Shub-Niggurath, but the monikers 'Blind Idiot God' and 'Black Goat of the Woods' are enough to inspire fear. Monsters needen't necessarily be dripping with slime or covered in spikes and have descriptions that might has well have been drawn to save time.
Shapeless, indescribable, protean, unspeakable, blasphemous: words that give you the perfect yet imperfect impression of Lovecraft's creations.
OK, ok, I asked you what the greatest piece of art you've ever come across was and you told me. I believe you when you say Lovecraft's books are great. But, why'd you use the word "atheism"? It seems you are saying atheists tend to have limited imaginations.

I am going to say NGE. Because for all my ragging on it's ending, I don't really think that anything has ever really gotten to me in terms of that whole exploration of human interaction thing as that did.

It can be anything; movie, book, show, play, painting, machinima, etc. I never specified it had to be a game, that was just an example.

Time Splitters: Future Perfect. I played that so many times i could do it blindfolded, yet it was always funny and new.

Well yeah, the worst Atheists I've ever met (numbering in the hundreds, easily) insist with the zeal of a Crusader that there's nothing to life but what our senses tell us.
Mmm, as an athiest, my problem is less with the idea that something beyond our senses exists and more with the idea that anyone knows what that something is.

Although Yahtzee would completely disagree with me, MGS4.

Its got everything I want in a game; great story, great characters, great gameplay.

Hard, really, but I'll pick About Schmidt. I can really connect to that movie unlike anything else, and gods it's depressing...

Serious Sam 1 and 2. I enjoy the atmosphere and vividly realised world of System Shock 2, and the engrossing characters and storylines of KOTOR 1 and 2, but in terms of fun nothing can compare to riding into battle on a magic carper, throwing kamikaze exploding parrots at incoming choppers while t-rex headed ED-209s fire rockets up at you from the ground as legions of orcs in power armour, chainsaw-wielding pumpkin-heads and exploding frogs swarm around their ankles. It's all just so unapologetically mucking fental I love it.

The three games that I always tend to fall back on in terms of showing what I think constitutes a great game are always a combination of:
Super Mario RPG
Ocarina of Time
and Shadow of the Colossus

Jak and Daxter 2.

Story, gameplay, level design, amazingness. Its all there
It was indeed well done, and one of the greater games, but I wouldn't define it as art in that manner.
Why not? A game with an amazing storyline of betrayal and corruption, that still managed to make light of it self at every turn.
It was just a bit too silly. Don't get me wrong, silly can be great, but it mixed gritty seriousness and an angry protagonist with a wise-cracking weasel. It didn't tug my heart strings or give me a emotional realization (although it was great fun). Don't know, just didn't feel like it was art.
Meh, who am I to say your wrong. Like all art, its up to your own opinion
Well said, my dear monocle-wearing sir.
