Ok so to clarify on the topic title, Aside from gameplay, graphics etc.

What is your strangest reason for buying a game.

As an example here's mine. . .

A friend of mine had given me a not-strictly-legal copy of Portal when the orange box was first released, essentially I had no interest in the half life series at the time and had never heard of team fortress so it was only portal that I had any interest in.

Having played through it though, I decided to play through it again with the developer commentary turned on only to find that the copy I had didn't include it, so I bought the orange box specifically to listen to the commentary on Portal.

As to why I later bought it on the PS3 as well. . . well obviously I wanted to play Portal on the telly.

And before we go off on a tangent, yes Piracy is wrong and that's not what this thread is about.

Well a few days ago i piled up all the money i didn't really need and proclaimed that "I will buy the first game that has good box art!" Fucking nothing, seriously no good box art games? I am disappoint.

Apart from that no weird reasons just ohh cool game *buys*

Picked up MW2 recently, I don't care for CoD but I needed some sort of arcadey shooter to get through at some point. You might be thinking that's not so weird, but you haven't heard the main reason I bought it.

I wanted frickin' night vision goggles.

I was a huge fan of Amplitude when it came out, and I like it so much that I insisted on lending it to every friend I had. However, that left me without the game half the time, so I eventually bought a second copy so I could still play it while loaning it out.

I got Project Diva because it was a vocaloid game.
I got Drawn to Life because http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GAVaKYmpuQ
I basically own a PS2 because of Kingdom Hearts.
Same thing for PS1 and Final Fantasy X (more accurately, the commercials made me nostalgic for the days of FFI, and as I was like 14 at the time, my mom got me a PS1 and FFIX after I pointed out they were going for like 30 bucks at Gamestop).
And a PSP and Final Fantasy Dissidia.
And PS3 and FFXIII (You may be noticing a pattern here).

I don't think I've had any strange reasons for buying a game. All of the purchases I've made were pretty justified. I guess never getting the chance to play a game when it came out, simply because it was hyped a decade ago is pretty strange.

Final Fantasy III on the DS: "Hey, a numbered Final Fantasy I've never played before!"

JUMP: Ultimate Stars: "Well...I'll probably never own a Smash Brothers game and I'll probably never import a game after this."

Final Fantasy XIII: "It can't be as bad as the forums say. Even if it is, getting to Chapter 11 shouldn't take that long."

Hmm... I bought "BloodyRayne" part one because it was 3.49? (~4$) in a bin, and it had a leather clad girl on the cover. To this day, the best value for money game buy ever.

The other one is rather recent: I bought Dragon Age UC for PS3, because my PC broke and thus I couldn't continue playing it.

That's exactly what I did. An awesome game as well.

OT: I bought Kororinpa for the Wii, a decent game, because it had a fluffy pig on the boxart.

I recently bought and paid a subscription for Champions Online only because 2 friends have been bugging me to play it. Not that keen on the game, can't remember when I last logged in and have reinstalled some old games and playing those instead. Think i'd better remember to cancel my sub.

I bought Deadly Premonition because I wanted to experience how bad it actually was. Funnily enough I was pleasently surprised. The story is interesting despite its combat being atrocious.

Valve could make "Backyard Dog Poo Clean Up: The Game" and I'd probably buy it just because I love Valve. Oddly enough, I'm not really crazy about their games, it's more so because of their business practices.

I bought Minecraft because after watching a shit ton of Youtube videos I decided I wanted to make a skin for Mineman, Mr. Minecraft, Steve... whatever he's called.

Also, I bought the Humble Indie Bundle #2 despite having little to no interest in the games, because it's a great thing they are doing. I suppose this isn't strange, but considering you can give to charity sans getting games, it is a bit.

I played Warhammer 40k: Fire Warrior and I liked it. Then I saw an ad for Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War and thought it was a sequel so I bought it. I was wrong about the whole sequelt hing but I didn't care, I loved it anyway and it ended up becoming my favourite PC game.

I was hoping it would be like Quake 3.

...wow, I bet those words have never been uttered anywhere on the planet before...

What game was that?

I bought Quake 3 hoping it'd be like Quake 2. Twas disappointed. Then about a year after its release the mod community finally seemed to fully kick in and I was no longer disappointed... yes I was... Quake 3's mod community can't compare to Quake 2's... I was less disappointed, would be more accurate.

Wal-Mart was selling brand new games for one dollar each, so I bought three ; Guitar Hero World Tour, Final Fantasy Dissidia, and Street Fighter IV for three bucks, and sold them at Microplay for $19.50. Swish!

I sold them because I don't have a Playstation 3 or a PSP, which is what those games were for.
