Well I don't have an actual order since I like a lot of the games a lot in different ways, expecially my top 3 where I have no clue where I would put one game over the other. I also know that I'll probably miss something off but: (note, I only really go into detail why for the first few)

Top 4:
Mass Effect 2: The first game, with no crappy vehicle missions. Would have been my favorite game of the gen if not for that crappy Paragon, Renegade system that stopped me from being able to get 100% completion at the very last second(I did Miranda's mission last and because I had roleplayed I didn't have enough points to stp her fighting with Jack). That frustrated the hell of of me and is what stops me from labling the game as my favorite this generation.

The Walking Dead: I didn't think it would be good, turns out it was. The game was like a mix between an Adventure game and a Visual Novel and had a really well told story.

Bioshock Infinite: I love Bioshock 1, but I just prefer Columbia to Rapture. Plus Dat ending. If Infinite wasn't here Bioshock 1 would be.

Skyrim: I love the game. I didn't like Oblivion because the world just felt boring and samey to me. Skyrim, although it simplified a bit, was a return to what I loved in the previous Elder Scrolls games if they had DRAGONS. Plus the mods is just icing on top of the cake.

Now in no particular order:
Infamous 2: The last mission is why I hate Moral Choice systems.
Deus Ex Human Revolution: I love the game, but hate the boss fights.
Xcom Enemy Unknown: So much fun, but occasionally insanely irritating.
Startcraft II: I love the custom games.
Bastion: You gotta support the indies.
Arkham Asylum: BATMAN!

1 Ultima IV (C-64)
2 The Last Ninja (C-64)
3 TIE Fighter (DOS)
4 Emperor: Battle for Dune (WIN98)
5 Strahd's Possession (DOS)
6 Lemmings II: The Tribes (DOS)
7 Fallout (WIN95)
8 Master of Magic (DOS)
9 Baldur's Gate (WIN95)
10 Wasteland (C-64)

EDIT: There's two for the SNES that I really remember fondly
Super Empire Strikes Back

10) Mass Effect
9) Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
8) Batman: Arkham City
7) Limbo
6) The Walking Dead
5) BioShock
4) Portal 2
3) Batman: Arkham Asylum
2) Minecraft (how am I the first to even mention this?)
1) Portal (or the entire Orange Box, if that counts [which it probably shouldn't]; regardless, Portal, being my favorite game of all time, is still more than enough to take the top spot on its own)

Disclaimer: Anyone put off by the conspicuous lack of Skyrim, Spec Ops: The Line, Dark Souls, Bastion, Mass Effect 2, BioShock Infinite, etc. need not worry, since their exclusion is merely due to my not having played any of them yet.

-it was certainly a good game but like skyrim, a victim of over hype. the gameplay was okay and the story, while good, wasnt as good as everyone made it out to be. even people like total biscuit seemed to say that it was the best video game story ever, and i just didnt think it was quite THAT good

1. Bastion- My current favorite game of all time.
2. Portal- The only game I consider perfect.
3 and 4. Skyrim and Mass Effect 2- Mass Effect 2 was the game that really got me into RPG's and Skyrim was the first game I ever installed mods onto. Can't chose between the two of them.
5. X-COM:EU
6. Minecraft AKA the game I have spent more than a month of playtime with.
7. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon- Yes i'm counting this as a full game. Yes you should go play it right now.
8. Thomas Was Alone
9. FTL: Faster Than Light
10. Halo 3- Me and my brother played this so much that the disc won't actually play the high charity mission without freezing.

Honorable mentions go to Gratuitous Space Battles, Call Of Duty 2 (Also played until it broke), and Journey.

1. Dark Souls
They fixed my biggest problem with Demon's Souls by adding a checkpoint system that didn't make you repeat an entire level when you died. The Estus Flask system was a great addition and helped balance the game.
2. The Walking Dead
I had never watched the show or read the comics. I saw Spoiler Warning start an LP on it and I had to stop watching to experience the game myself after it piqued my interest. I was blown away. Clementine is the best child character ever in a video game and her and Lee's relationship was beautiful.
3. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
My first game ever when I got a 360 and upgraded to this generation. The amount of hours I have put into it is stupid.
4. Dragon Age: Origins
So many playthroughs. This is how you make a narrative/character driven RPG with a blank slate character.
5. Fallout: New Vegas
They took a game I hated (Fallout 3) and showed just how much good writing can make a difference when two games are identical gameplay wise. Also see: Heavy Rain and The Walking Dead.
6. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor: Overclocked
The characters were interesting, the combat system was excellent, and the story was good.
7. Mass Effect
The setting was cool, the characters were cool, and Shepard was actually a blank slate. And I heart the Mako. [small][small]Bring it.[/small][/small]
8. Catherine
Boy was this game ambitious. But it pulled it off. The puzzles were challenging and addicting and the story kept me intrigued.
9. Persona 4: Arena
I haven't even touched story mode yet. This is just dumb fun playing a fighting game based off my favorite RPG. The novelty of that still hasn't worn off.
10. Mass Effect 2
I give this game a lot of crap. The main storyline is atrocious. The game doesn't move the overall plot forward at all. And yet I've beat it 4 times. Why? The characters are that good. The loyalty missions are amazing. I just have to hold my nose when I get to a main quest.

4. Left 4 dead 2
5. Super Mario Galaxy
