I don't mind nudity, as long as it is tasteful. You may or may not beleive this but I'm naked right now. No reason its just I got out the shower and its a warm room. Why should I get dressed?

Looking back a good 1/5 of my posts were done naked.

The problem people have with nudity stems from religion. The main example most will relate to is the "Adam & Eve" story. Practically God says "nudity is bad". So religion has once again influenced society in a negative way (big surprise there).

Nudity is not bad, we (as a society) have a negative view thrashed upon it. We should love our bodies and never be ashamed of them. Everyone is beautiful, its just that we as individuals have prefferences and the accumulation of those preferences make up a majority, or society's viewpoint. Its unfortunate that this majority is so obscured and faulty, with too much emphasis on outer "beauty".

Seeing others naked bothers some because they were brought up to think its wrong to see the "privates" of others. Honestly it wouldn't bother me whether the world goes around nude or clothed, because it really doesn't matter.

Being naked is a freeing experience. Not bound or discomforted by the confines of our clothing. Clothing does have practical purposes of course. Keep us warm and, at times, safe. Also there is an eroticism that comes with the removal of clothing (or the teasing wiht), to finally be able to see your lover in all of her/his glory.

I have come to find that some of the happiest moments are when your able to be nude. for example: i'm currently in a relationship and the most wonderul place in my mind that i could be is snuggled in bed with the one i love, completely nude.

Maybe the human race was never meant to be clothed, as much as we are at least. There certianly is too much of a negative light on nudity. If nudity was more accepted, there would be a lot less "taboos".

Also, You certianly don't emerge from the womb with a cardigan on do ya! :)

And if that didn't help you put things in perspective... without clothes, you'd have to see your mother naked. ALL THE TIME. Don't even try to act like that wouldn't bother you.
No it wouldn't.
Why? Because I've seen her naked quite a few times when I was growing up, and she didn't care, so now neither do I.

Which, of course, if the nub of the matter, all the main problems people are stating are only because nudity isn't the norm, if people were naked a lot you wouldn't care about old bodies any more than old faces, you wouldn't get an erection from random women because you see random women all the time and flashers would be irrelevant as one more penis wouldn't matter.

And obviously clothes have their uses, like keeping warm, but this isn't about getting rid of clothes, it's about being tolerant of nudity.

i really couldn't care less about nudity.
maybe not walk around in the streets butt naked, but bikini/shorts or whatever, admittedly i live in Sweden so there isn't really that much time in the year for those kinds of things (unless you literally want to freeze you're arse of!)

also no fat people -_-
and I mean the 150+ kg not the "dammit I'm half a kilo overweight" like some(women especially) seem to think the word fat means o_O

Nudity facinates me(no not in that way), take for instance breasts, what is it about this particular part of a woman's body that's so incredibly arousing?
I think it has a lot to do with it being taboo, imagine a world where everyone covered up their ears, would it make ears instantly sexy?
Bigger breasts meens more milk for the young. I believe it's just some primal instict from way back when.

So religion has even made it to a thread about walking around in the nod?

We at the Escapist have many atheists. How many of them walk around naked? How many would walk around naked if it was perfectly legal too? When Stalin and Mao instituted state atheism, did everyone suddenly strip off and wave their bits around in the street in celebration?

I guess I am missing out on all these atheist hot nude get togethers (which Wiccans enjoy.)

There is nothing wrong with nudity, in my opinion. Now flashing, that's sick as hell.
There's a huge difference between being naked and getting your jollies from swinging your junk in someones face.

I live in Canada... nudism here would be crazy...

That said, I really don't care, you're being naked in no way harms or effects me. Though in some cases there may be sanitation concerns, and I would support regulations/bylaws that regulated nudism in those cases.

Of course, religion has put its corrupt/greedy/blood-stained claws on everything, so it shouldn't be a surprise it came up, just that it didn't come up sooner.
As for nude atheists, you may have to post a new thread for that one. i'm neither. semi-clothed Agnostic here :)

Nudity is pretty unhygienic...and if everyone was naked sexual assaults and harassment would rise pretty steeply...

If everyone did start walking around naked then over time it would just become natural, breasts, penises, ect wouldn't cause a fuss after a few generations grew up seeing everyone's parts, it would just become a standard thing. Women wouldn't expose their thighs 100 years ago and now no one thinks anything of it. Though clothes are useful whenever it rains, get too cold, stops you cutting yourself on things, protects you, etc. so there's no practical reason to walk around naked short of aesthetic value

No nudity. People are disgusting to look at with their clothes on. And you people want to see more? Everyone should wear burqas all the time. Burqas with DC hero logos on the back. So that every time you see someone, for a second you'll wonder, "What if that's really Batman under that burqa, and he's just about to tear it off and kick my butt?"

In other news, I think convicted felons should be forced to wear underpants made out of Legos. But the Legos would be made out of steel, and they wouldn't come apart unless you had a key or something. Oh, the discomfort!

But yes, universal burqas. I feel very strongly about this.

This is probably the worst thought out attack on religion I have ever seen on these boards, and that really says something.

Can you gamble? Can you drink? Are there pole dancers and strip joints legally making money and paying taxes?

The world no longer stones homosexuals or adulterers, witches are no longer burned at the stake, and the world has certainly moved on from the point in which Religion determines what, how, and when we do things.

You cannot blame a religious movement from the 17-18th century for the majority of social views today. Unless there is a massive conspiracy to keep me personally out of all of these atheist naked sex orgies that are going on.

Add to all that - women covered their breasts prior to the introduction of Christianity in Europe.

wow you are naive, to think that religion isn't still one of the biggest influences on society.
and i wasn't trying to attack religion here, just to simply point out that it is one of the main causes for the negative views on nudity.

* oh and for the record, it isn't even necessary to put that much thought into attacking religion, the flaws are painstakingly obvious

If one is around unclothe people for long enough, one grows accustomed to it. You don't have men and women jumping into some orgy just because they see each other nude in places where clothes nor body shame were never the norm while on the flipside, men in cultures where everyone is hyper-sensitized to nudity because they aren't used to seeing much human skin at all go crazy with lust if they see so much as an ankle. As the old rumor went, that is why table cloths were invented...so the men would hump the tables.
As for people who don't like it, well, only by confronting that which makes one uncomfortable can one develop a tolerance for it. Anyone who ever has showered in public already has 50% of it developed. (Homosexuals don't have random orgies either when they see other men or women naked in the shower. Give heterosexuals and bisexuals some credit for some self control, too!)
Sure, non-sexualized nudity can ruin businesses whose only claim to fame is the nudity or near nudity of their staff, but they can always come up with a new gimmick, right?

Is that due to monotony since it's the same Birthday Suit day in and day out? What if people wear body paint or get new tatoos (temporary or otherwise)or piercings to throw some variety into the mix? Other than that, if seeing people's faces or hands don't annoy or bore you, it would quickly become a non-issue.
