When did PvE become "wuss" mode?

PvE became "wuss mode" roughly around the time players realized they could just whine for the NPCs to be nerfed if they posed a challenge, whereas in PvP you can't whine for a certain player to be nerfed if they turn out to be above the rest.

Spot the Difference!
PvE: NPCs using the same few abilities.

PvP: Players using the same few abilities (of whatever build is currently the most Competitive/Overpowered)

I hope this hasn't discouraged you from Fallen Earth, which is an excellent (PVE, PVP or RP) MMO.
At first it felt a bit unrewarding with the Zip guns, I felt like I was going to spend my entire time just shooting stuff and doing a pittance of damage because of "RPG Balance"

Then I got a scoped magnum, courtesy of a crafting friend, then he taught me how to gather/craft (not just randomly gather, how to hunt etc.)

I love Fallen Earth...by all things holy...I love it.
Yeah, the starter guns are fairly weak, but that just makes it all the more satisfying once you can get your hands on a 'real' gun.

OT: Fallen Earth is actually the only MMO I've ever enjoyed PVP in. Not 24/7 by any means, but it can be a refreshing change of pace to jump into the Bloodsports arenas or spend a risky hour or two in the PVP towns.

I've also noticed, in several games, that some PVPers have a contemptuous attitude towards PVE because to them it's just a means to an end - something to be slogged through while they grind up to max level. Each to their own I guess.

that is often a problem with FPS PVP games. COD, crysis2 etc that have a levelling up system need to do something to balance the field a bit. it really does suck if u just bought the game and you are trying to go up against ppl who are so high lvl they can kill you with 1 shot in the chest and withstand multiple headshots.
The levelling system is fine. In cod you can buy any perk you want right at the start, and any gun attachment. All you get higher up is new guns which aren't a huge deal better than the old ones, + a few more specialised items such as the crossbow.

The spawning system and possibly the system that detects whether bullets are actually hitting people or not both suck really hard though.

The amount of times I've spawned directly under a missile or with a dude pointing a gun at my head is just stupid. It should not happen once. Let alone repeatedly throughout a game.

PvE is "Wuss Mode" simply because it's us against AI. They have set patterns, parameters they can't exceed, and are locked into their programming. People are not.
Characters are always restricted by the abilities/skills of their class, the parameters of their gear, and the programming that their classes have been given. They're simply given a small amount greater freedom. PvE bosses could be SO much more devastating and challenging, if designers were willing to go to the extra effort to make them as such.
This is true, I do wish that PvE bosses would have more effort put into them, but an example I'm trying to use is like this: A bot in an FPS game will not use "bunnyhopping" as a strategy. They will not use "quickscoping" as an exploit. They will not camp a single spot because they can shoot without being shot at except by a concentrated team effort. Not to mention things that people do in, say, Battlefield Bad Company 2. Where Snipers won't actually snipe; they'll just take a short range sniper rifle, and C-4, then plant it (the C-4) on the point so that other people can't re-capture it. Sure, it's a viable tactic, but it's ridiculously cheap. And if you know anything about that game, all I have to do is mention the Carl Gustav.

Bots will play the game fairly, without exploiting anything outside of their programming. They might do it on accident, but that's usually just because of a mistake on the programmer's part. Not to mention, bots don't grief and troll.

But yes, I agree. PvE bosses and battles could be a lot more difficult, and could have multiple modes to go through depending on a team's composition, geared towards making it as difficult as possible for the group to actually win. But that would take endless months of programming, coming up with possibilities and countering them as well as they can, bug testing, and a veritable truck-load of money.

You can't get a true test of your abilities until you play against real opponents.

So clearly the OP is really bad at whatever game, and instead of trying to get better and beat the opponents he would rather run away and hide.

It isn't that PvP is better, its just that you can tell a lot about someones personality through how they play games. It isn't bad to not enjoy fighting real people, but it isn't good either.

Here's a tip: Next time you look for a guild in any game, go for the ones who state that they are mature and/or casual. Those are by far the best guilds in my experience. Depending on your definition of a good guild, of course. My main prioritites are politeness, as little drama as possible and helpfulness. You know, all the things a guild ought to be about.

When I played WoW pvp, I found it pretty good. Honestly if you play carefully enough you can compete against the better geared players. I think the gear difference probably appplies to WoW a lot more than most other games.

When I got better at the game, I rolled a warrior and when it reached level cap I got a geared healer friend (ok, it was 2 healers...) to play with me and I was topping damage in blue/green gear.

I don't really like BGs due to this reason though. Most people are terrible (geared or not) so I stick to arenas where my input matters more, compared to BGs where even if I do really well I will still lose because people decide to ignore the objectives completely and would rather die all the time.

Also, WoW is a PvE game. Cataclysm had good PvP at first (if you didn't play a hunter) but seriously it just didn't get better and since I stopped doing PvE when cataclysm came out I just quit.

"Shut up PvP guy."
