Sorry guys if the thread is misleading.

As far as S&M goes, I was thinking about how the game hurts me, makes me its b*tch, and I keep going back to it.

Skittles and M&Ms would be nasty, Lono

Because it turns out every gamer is actually a Sadomasochist.

Didn't you get the memo?

That's not S&M, that's just a bad relationship. I recommend geting your guy-friends together (i'm assiuming you're a guy; don't call me sexist if you're not), and talking about your relationship with MW2. Odds are they'll be able to pry you away from your destructive cycle of relationships and set you up with a nice RPG or story-driven shooter, maybe a survival horror game if they can find one that doesn't become dull after you get to know it. Point is, you should make a clean break with MW2, and probably avoid the abuse of major FPS titles with it.

If MW2 starts calling again, say you've found a new game and that you want nothing to do with it. Stay firm and avoid contact with it if you can. If MW2 starts banging on the door claiming it's changed and that you should take it back, stay strong and don't call the cops. Odds are you're tripping out again...

OR... you could suck it up and remember that assholes make up 10-20% of the gaming population, which means that they make up 95% of all communication.

Oh man, that made me laugh. I downloaded BF1943, which is actually a fun experience (if a little limited by only having a few maps). Wish more people played it though.

S&M is fun outside of games? Huh. It always strikes me as "what the hell is wrong with you, why would you do that to other people and why the hell are they letting you?" Humiliation and punishment aren't sexy (some of the outfits can be though).

What the OP really should have said is Masochism, not S&M. Persisting at things that actively punish you for playing them is what a masochist would do, and what the thread is actually about. S&M is just sex play and I'm pretty sure there isn't anything of the sort in Modern Warfare 2.

To be honest many multiplayer games have a certain level of challenging appeal. It's challenging yourself to do better or be better than other players. I used to feel this way about some games, but then I realized that I should strive to be 'good enough to have fun' and not worry about being the best.

Unfortunately, too many people out there are still stuck on being 'the best' even if it's something as pointless as a video game. Well I have stuck with some games that were an exercise in frustration, I absolutely will not stick with a game if people can cheat to win.

For example... many people thought that the melee-then-shotgun tactic in Gears was a cheat, but it's not, and eventually I had to learn away around it, as well as how to use it to my own advantage.

But something like the Javelin glitch in MW2 would drive me insane to the point of not bothering with it. Fortunately I had the foresight to recognize that MW 2 would be a pile of unbalanced ass-hat garbage and I avoided it.

I'd explain to you why it is fun, but I suspect I'd just freak you out. But it is, believe me.

Oh you so misleading....

I can here for some Symphony and Metallica but to no avail...
To the others who came here for the same reason:

OT: Never played MW2 and have no intention to do so in the future... I can't imagine it is as good as killzone 2... and if it is, I can't imagine it is different enough to warrent a purchase (Theres only so much variation possible in the FPS genre)

Last night, I was playing Call of Duty MW2 with a few friends, and we all decided that some of the inane things our teammates and enemies did A) couldn't be fun (i.e. hiding in a corner the whole game, waiting for someone to run by so they can get 1 kill, and then hide for the rest of the game) or B)were so infuriating that we wondered why we were putting ourselves through this (there was a guy with scavenger shooting grenades from his launcher at a window, and he didn't move, but our whole team was stuck because the map bottlenecked there).

Now, the first thing many of you are thinking is, wow you're whining because you must suck at this game. While I'm not the best, I usually go 20-10, have an above .500 win/loss ratio, and a 1.40 K/D ratio all time. My friend, at the time of this writing, was in the 3000 across all leaderboards, so he's no slouch, but he still rage quits every now and then because things get so frustrating.

So I'm asking this: Why do people love Call of Duty so much when it is possibly the most sadomasochistic experience I have ever engaged in? Is it the competition? The leveling up system?

I can think of a dozen or so first-person shooters that are more fun, yet right now, MW2 is the king of shooters.

Thoughts?
I personally prefer Battlefield. Less aggrevating and moar flying

Yes, the vehicle combat is much fun in battlefield, but they need to give better anti-vehicle support to infantry, otherwise you get mowed down if you don't get a plane.
