Two key moments let me know I was an adult (not old, per se, but an actual grownup):

1. When I turned down lawn seats for a concert.

2. When I looked at a major appliance and went "Oooo....."

gray hair, I was born in another millennium then the one we're in now, I'm the only one of my friends who isn't A) married B) pregnant/has kids C) or both. I think the last one is the clincher though, oh and the 'you wanted to change the world, well you now have used up a quarter of your life and have nothing to show for it' reason for my one and only panic attack right there actually

The semester when none of my students said they had ever made a mixtape for someone they liked.

Or maybe romance is just dead to this generation?

EDIT: I should qualify that. I'm an adjunct professor at a university

Ditto. Also suddenly occurred to me that I probably should have had more fun with my childhood when I could have gotten away with things like throwing worms at people and playing on a Gameboy in public without being judged.

MIXED CDS!!

Wait, YOU MAKE YOUR OWN MUSIC AND SEND IT AS AN MP3 ON MSN MESSENGER!!!

My brother, he is 29 now, did actually make his own song for his girlfriend, its 3 years ago, I think. And not "own song" as in ripping random songs, and make your own mp3, he actually wrote the song, and played it on guitar himself.

The only time playing guitar is acceptable is when it leads to potentially large chances of sex.

EDIT: I never realized anything, since I'm not old yet! I'm still studying.

When I realized I'd been working a 9-5 office job for a year now, and I am not even close to realizing any of the dreams I had for my adult life.

That gentlemen is what professionals refer to as a quarter life crisis. I believe ABC tried to make a sh*tty tv show about it.

Lawn seats at concerts is for cool people of all ages. Standing up and jumping up and down is for pillocks.

But I cannot refute the part about apliances. ^^

I realized I was old when I went to a local convenience store and their computers were off line. The clerk (a high school graduate) could not figure out how to make simple change without a computer!

Back in my day we learned basic math with that there diploma-thingy ;)

When staying out drinking until 2am became really, really hard, and not particularly appealing.

mintsauce has definately hit one of the true telling points right on the nose.

I'll add, when I realized that I cannot do my job well on less than 7 hours of sleep. Goodbye 2 a.m. bedtimes.

When working as a cashier a woman tells her child to "pick a chocolate bar quickly or the man will shout at you" pointing at me when she says "the man"

the moment that the battle "videogames vs. sleep" was lost for the videogames... like a year ago
