This was just so incredible, firstly i didn't even know they had 'April fools' in the middle east. But also the fact that it was supposed to "entertain, not scare people". Since when does entertainment constitutes Terrifying the local population?

America out-grew this 72 years ago with War of the Worlds. It was idiotic for people to fall for it then, and flat out laughable for them to fall for it now.

It's not common sense over there though.

Say a newspaper did something similar here on June 14th, just because it's the Punjabi day of Clown Recognition. Not common knowledge and someone will take it seriously, most likely the people who take all the papers 100% seriously.

i think that a joke goes to far if it causes bodily (or phsycological) harm to any of the victims.

The only people who went too far are the victims of this, and as for "What is too far?", something is too far if it involves killing people or digging up corpses or sodomising someone's dog. Those kinds of things are too far, things like phony-yet-obvious(-to-most) news reports and fake broken arms are just short of being 'perfectly far enough'.

Some guy told a friend of mine her boyfriend died on April Fools day... Not really a joke if you ask me, especially because it temporarily devastated her until he hastily told her he was only kidding around. That's just being a sick freak and toying with peoples emotions imo, and does not constitute a good joke.

Those people are just playing into the stereotype that they are a backward nation and anyone who claims anything different from their religion is a witch.

A comedy festival in Jordan would go something like this:

"A man walks into a bar...then gets stoned outside"

I'm not trying to be a dick or anything I'm just saying they are very very serious people and a comedy festival sounds like the dumbest idea ever.

April fools can obviously go too far. I mean check out IGN, none of those stories were even remotely funny except the Ecco the dolphin goes die hard one.

Oh, we actually have April's Fools here in the middle east. Also Saint Valentine's day. They might not fit into our culture or religion, but frak it, they are fun.

wtf those days have something to do with culture or religion? ;)

OT: How does this go too far? Nobody was actually harmed, were they, so I think it's perfectly fine. War of the Worlds is really the first thing that comes to mind, and we laugh extremely hard at that one today.

Over reacted? If the parents in your city/town didn't allow their children in to school and started to hide in panic, would you not get slighty agitated at it?
