I was never a real full on gamer but i pretty much stopped althogether (bar the odd drunken night in when there's only a few of us) when i realised going out and....well usually i dont remember too much after leaving the house....but anyway its more fun. BUT i did always like the idea of being a gamer simply because it seems fun but well im a functional alcoholic that loves to socialize

There was an episode of 16 and pregnant, where the boyfriend bought a PS3 and his girlfriend made him take it back to the store to save money for the baby.

That's when he stopped being a gamer.

It could be soon for me if this DRM keeps getting bad. So far I am only boycotting insane DRM(No,I don't pirate)

It happened in the past when I lost a whole bunch of tunes that I had legally downloaded and (at the time) they weren't backed up on their end and you couldn't write them to CD's. I thought about pirating them back ('I've paid for the licence,it's justified') but I ended up just not. Haven't bought a bit of music since.

I think I'm on the way out to be honest. It's killing my free time, money , productivity...skin. Soon won't be able to justify it.

Well, lacking a desire for kids and going into a lucrative, creative field, and "Being a gamer" being a big requirement for anyone I date, let alone consider spending my life with, I don't think I'll ever stop being a gamer until they pry the PS7 controller out of my cold dead hands.
And even then I'll probably become a zombie just to game some more.
One of those sentient, smart zombies from Ugly Americans, not the Left 4 Dead or Resident Evil kind.
But, it really is an "when I don't have time" thing, the way I see it. The more demanding your school/work/family life, the less free time you have.
I think it's weird that , despite being a self admited Nintendo fanboy, i went with the sony controler in my hand. I won't think too much into it.

I've greatly reduced the amount of games that I play since every other release now has to be an FPS or Sandbox title from some developer that hit the scene in 2002. It doesn't mean that I'll stop playing though, I just won't follow the current trends of what's "in" when it comes to gaming.

When throphies, achievements, perks, and such, start to matter more to them,
than the actual joy of playing games.

Saint Psycho said:

I have been a gamer now for a few decades. I find that the flavor of the games may change, but I shall be a gamer 'till I die. Be it video games, board games, or pen&paper games like Dungeons and Dragons, I shall continue to play. My imagination shall not be stilled, my thirst for excitement shall not be quenched.

Gamer for life.
Amen

Even if the industry goes to shit and we are buried beneath a never ending swarm of God Of War and Modern Warfare clones, then I'll just play my massive backlog of old classics. I plan on being a gamer, period.

Uhm, who quits being a gamer? I mean once a gamer always a gamer you will always find trivial enjoyment in games of any form. Cards, electronic, etc... Just because someone stops playing PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, or Computer Doesn't mean they are ont still somewhat of gamer inside.

You're not a 'gamer' when you stop playing video games because you don't have any interest in them. If you still like to play video games but just don't have the time to play them as much, you're still a gamer.

I have an uncle who used to play varsity football (or rugby, if you are European, I think) in High School, played it in college on a scholarship, and never missed a game when he moved out, getting all he could on paper view. He had boat loads of paraphernalia and trinkets relating to his football days. When he eventually passed the bar exam and became a lawyer, got married, went on to work for some big company and grew up he stopped having as much time to watch football. As he aged, he stopped being as fast or as limber as he used to be and lost the edge that made him a great football player. He became an ordinary guy, about as good as at throwing a ball as any other schmuck and his neat football stuff went into storage.

That said, he still records it to watch when he can, listens to it on the radio, I imagine, and plays it a bit with the family when he gets time off. He plays less but still plays. I imagine vidja games and D&D aren't so different.
