So I've been reading Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 1) for a while now and I'm getting the point in which Vol. 2 was released. I want to know if Volume 2 is a continuation of the same story or something new entirely. In other words, do I need to read Volume 2 in order to know all there is to know about Volume 1?

Sure you got that last part the right way round?

If you are referring to the Claremont/Byrne Essential tpb,
Then yes. It is a direct sequel.

If not, then who was the author?

I believe we're talking about the same series (the one started in 1991). But, when you say a direct sequel, do you mean that it takes place directly after the final issue of Uncanny?

noo, the Claremont/Byrne arc started in,,, like 75?
so I'm not to sure about what series you are reading.

Most Marvel (if not all) are linked directly, though.

Okay, I just don't want to be reading Uncanny and missing out on a whole bunch of crucial events. I'm sure I'll be fine, thanks for the help, anyway :p.

X-Men launched in 91, while Uncanny X-Men continued on. For most of the last twenty years, they've run side by side and frequently crossed over from one to the other.
