Ok, I get that different people have different standards, wants, and needs. I have been stating that for years myself, but there comes a time when you just want to slap the "FAN" out of some people.

I am a member of another forum, and with Gran Turismo 6 details being released this week, fanboys are losing their minds. Apparently, they have a lot riding on this game. I also know that usually when the muck starts getting deep, the muckrakers are mostly the very vocal minority who constantly flood the forum with their narrow-viewed opinions, but there comes a time when you have to read it, if for nothing more than a good laugh at how moronic some of it is, and more so when the complete opposite minded get there and turn it all into something only the US Congress can decipher.

Asking if on the internet would be dumb, so I'll ask which games you know of that have received laughable fandom rage.

Bayonetta 2 hate was pretty damn laughable. If the choice is either no Bayonetta 2 or Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U I know which one I'll pick.

No "fan over-reaction" thread can exist without Mass Effect 3

Not liking the ending? Fair enough
Complaining about the ending on the forums? Makes sense, that's why we have forums.
Demanding refunds of your 30 hour game because you hated the last 40 minutes? A little overboard I think but I suppose that's OK
Sending a bunch of cupcakes to the developers? ...getting creepy but that's kind of cute
Pursuing (potential) legal action because you thought the ending was a breach of contract false advertising [footnote]Changed since a number of people noted that a FTC thingy is NOT a lawsuit as I formerly thought based on what I read. Still silly to me but I have corrected the post to have the accurate info[/footnote]? Come on guys, this is getting silly.
Death Threats sent to Bioware? Alright guys, this isn't funny anymore

People's intense loathing for the WiiU and Nintendo. The amount of hatred the console and the company gets is just hilarious to watch

Every time the internet gets irrationally pissed about small things, i.e. being a writer for a game or changing the rate of fire for a virtual gun.
The amount of pettiness is too much.

Yes, read the responses to BF or CoD gun tweaks.

*we've lowered the rate of fire on the Famas by 0.1 sec and adjusted the x-axis recoil by + 0.2*

Followed by 500 posts of completely bi polar arguments about either "you've nerfed the gun to hell it's unusable now!" or "lol the gun was OP now nobody will use it. Noobz"

Well seeing how the posters named what I was thinking (in order I must add) DmC would be the next one. What got me started on doing the rabid fangirl rants on the game was how laughable the fans before me were. I sounded ridiculous and I laughed at myself when I did it.

Also while not technically a game, any console wars. The platforms are so similar now it hardly matter. Not to mention how angry people get if you don't like their system, since their choice is obviously superior if you don't agree you must be an idiot.

Well, that recent Diretide debacle was laughable. "OHMYGOD! They didn't do the event that they didn't even promise! Let's bomb the metacritic, call VOLVO car company and threaten a person who isn't even related to the company (Cyborgmatt)! That will show them!". You god damn morons.

Anyone remember Skyward Sword?

"HE'S RIGHT HANDED! BWAAAAAH!"

Or Sonic:

"HIS EYES ARE GREEEEEEEEEN! RAAAAWR!"

Those kinda fans, they are all awful! It makes me cringe.

The dire tide incident was pretty petty
but still quite amusing.
Still think the volvo employee who answered the fans should get a medal

I'm not really the most reliable person to respond to this question. I'm a moderately horrible person (when it comes to what I find funny anyway.) I will laugh at issues that people still have genuine concerns about all the time ("too soon?" is a question I always ask myself far too late.) In the excellent ME example above I was laughing at people complaining the ending was bad. Before all of the vitriol and hate-on, I just found it really funny people could dislike a piece of entertainment enough to complain because 3% wasn't "good enough." My comments were "journey's more important than the destination... how was the IMPORTANT part of the game, you know the BULK of it?"

I got raged on for that, which was the intent. But the ME 3 thing I'm guessing won't last nearly as long as the pathetically stupid (and I know some people still think the hate is valid, sorry) Fallout 3... uhh... fallout.

"It's not Fallout, they turned it into a SHOOTER. WAAAAUUUGGGGGHHHHHHH! (rage to the interwebz)" The hate has evolved since, but that's the core argument and it's never changed and neither have the haters. They just pretend to have changed. "The TONE is totally different." Yeah, just because it continues visual aesthetic, audio mood, story, factions, monetary unit, weapons, etc., etc... somehow it's TONE is different. Once NV was released most jumped onto "NV is the REAL FO 3." Because I guess putting it back west of the Rockies somehow changed their so-called "tone." Actually the NV "jump" just an easy out for people who were growing up a little and realizing their argument was pretty stupid. "Well, they gave us the game we WANTED, I guess it's ok now." But even just yesterday on another forum I saw brand new FO 3 hate posted. I've been laughing at these odd fanboys from the moment I picked up FO 3. Yeah, it IS different in several ways. It's also a BLAST. So is NV, good lord, just have fun and stop with all the juvenile mewling. Hate on something fun over some moronic principle... go ahead, I'll be enjoying life and laughing at you.

The Kingdom Hearts 3 "gameplay" trailer...

"Why does Sora have guns?"
"These graphics are worser than in Kingdom Hearts [2]!"
"This game doesn't deserve to be on the Xbone!"
"The Wii U is best console!"

That basically boils down "some" of the the negative comments from this trailer... That last one involving the Wii U had the best irrelevant comment chains I've ever seen in a Kingdom Hearts-related video on YouTube...

I also remember going on Gamefaqs just to read all of the more negative reviews of games that didn't really deserve it... like, surprise surprise, most of the Kingdom Hearts games in general... (Yes, even the GBA and DS games... "I love Kingdom Hearts just as much as the next guy, but this game just flat out sucks!")

Most people aren't very good at criticism.
They can tell they don't like (or love) something but can't analyse why that is, and then identify some superficial thing that bothers them and blame it.

Like with Jar-Jar in SW-prequels, or the furry/human romance in Sonic 2006.
Yeah, the latter thing was stupid and badly written, but saying that's why the game sucks is overexaggerating.
It's just easy thing to ridicule.
(It's obviously not bestiality, since Sonic isn't exactly a normal animal. The problems I have with that are the art-styles not fitting together, there being no reason for it, and the writing being terrible.)

This isn't the worst instance of game hate I've run across, but it's trending right now:

Recently a certain hat [http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=181220079] was added to Team Fortress 2 as part of its Halloween update. It's probably no surprise to anyone that the reaction has been...polarizing, with naysayers claiming it's ruined TF2's art style forever. Some are calling it the death knell for the game. There's even a petition going around to remove the item from the game, even though you can just download a simple mod [http://tf2.gamebanana.com/skins/129918] to hide it if it really bothers you that much.

It's worth noting that the item is only wearable around Halloween or during full moons. Also, TF2's original art style has been abandoned (for better or worse) for a long time now:

All you have to do is go over to GameFAQs for stupidity. At least on the PS3 board FPSs are referred to as PAAGGs (play as a gun game) and games like The Last of Us are called Interactive Movies.

Although as a passable second, I'd suggest that the shitstorm that emerged with Dragon Age 2 had the ring of irrational game hate about it. While I don't think DA2 exactly lived up to expectations, it was still pretty solid, and was on the whole, better written than anything I think I've seen from Bioware before and since. And yet, to use a certain recent example, the amount of fan rage that came up on the Escapist from people getting worked up that the reviewer gave Dragon Age 2 five stars and GTAV only 3.5 was startling and rather depressing.

Ugh, you guys have snatched up all the good ones already... -.-

Two things though:
On Mass Effect 3, the ending was (and still is) pretty horrible and I would say it came close to ruining the game for me, but I agree that some people were overreacting (especially with the petitions and the legal actions). However, what really bugged me about the discussions at the time were the defenders of the ending.
Not the "it was okay" or the "well, it wasn't exactly good, but I have seen worse" guys, but the ones that were running around calling other people children for complaining and trying their hardest to divert the conversation. I solely blame these guys for the common misconception that "the complainers were manchildren who couldn't deal wit their character dying, boo hoo", and they are the reason why you can not have a civilized conversation about the ending even today at most corners of the net.
But back on topic: I never understood how they could defend the ending so adamantly. Mass Effect 3, no matter how you look at it, had an extremely strong middle portion but its beginning and end was so horribly written that if you turned that in to a Scripwriting 101 course, you would have been kicked out so hard you would become a twinkle in the sky (Blasting off agaaaaaaaaain... ! *twinkle* ... Sorry.).
This attitude baffles me more than even the stupidest of complains, since complaining about stupid details is easy, but building up defenses about objectively bad decisions/plot-details requires tons of rationalization and (arguably) self-deception that I can't really comprehend...

But let's cut the ME3 thing here, as I am probably only boring you.

So, my other example would be the "Bethesda game counter-culture", most noticeable about Skyrim. Of course you can say that this happens to every game, but Skyrim (and arguably the new Fallout games) have the most enduring counter-culture I have seen. There are guys that can still complain about the bugs and controls and design decisions and the UI and whatnot even though 99% of those have been fixed by the community for years, and when you tell them this they will just say that they do not mod their games because "that is not the experience they paid for, and thus unimportant". I could pretty much drown these guys in a spoonful of water... so I stop here before I descend into some incoherent rambling...

He stated he clearly liked DA2. A lot. GTAV is not a really good game, but better than 4.
The anger at FO3 was silly. "The faction are different from the earlier one!" Well of course they are. NCR or Enclave were not in number one. Shady Sands turning into something huge was a bigger change than between 2 and 3. Yet the brotherhood, mutants and enclave being a little different was too much

Anything negative about Valve. Saying that Valve isn't the gaming equivalent of ALL of the deities that have ever existed, ever isn't the problem. The problem is the tidal wave of Valve fanboy reaction that is guaranteed to show itself. And boy oh boy does it get vicious ever so quickly.

Hello, My name is Sarge034 and I dislike Valve as a company.
