We've all been there. Whether we're trying to evolve effing Magikarp or getting past Big Bertha in Super Mario Bros. 3, there comes a time in every game where playing just isn't fun anymore. This thread is mainly for sharing stories where even the best games went bad, though I challenge you to find a game without a single bad spot.

This is going to make me sound like a noob, but who's Big Bertha?

Pokemon Soul Silver at the moment. I'm currently attempting to find the motivation to train my team to a high enough level so that we can attempt to bring Red down.

So far I'm caught up in the battle tower, not looking forward to the impending grindfest that is to come.

My run through of MW2 on veteran. The level of dying is becoming boring, as is pumping 10 rounds into someone, only to have them all negated by something, and have them kill me in 1 hit. Urgh.

Perfecting items in Disgaea 2... God, I love the game, even with the massive grind, but perfecting items is the worst thing in the entire game. 4-16 hours for one item? Dood....

RuneScape. I once spent two weeks obsessively reaching lvl 60 woodcutting. That was quite possibly the most boring goal I ever set for myself.

Game that I liked but became a chore, World of Warcraft. A game that is almost flawless, meh.. everyone has acheivements or are really old. Acheivements are mostly chores, kill 10 000 enemies or something like that.

Any time developers forget about weaknesses, i.e:

The shotgun is incredibly powerful in close quarters, BUT should not effective at medium or long range. (Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2)
or....
When you have an enemy that is small, hard to hit, attacks by suicide bombing, and travels in huge packs, THEN to make up for the number of them, their individual strength should be relatively low. (Those FUCKING ticks in Singularity, at least on Hard Mode.)

It starts becoming a chore when the game is more repetitive than it is fun. Most MMOs fall into this category at some point (with notable exceptions; WoW, LOTRO, DDO in particular), and some single player games are too repetitive to be fun for most people (Assassin's Creed comes to mind).

*puts on flame suit against WoW haters*

Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, the second DLC released for Borderlands.

It was fun at first, until you realized that you had to finish the same exact 1.5-hour-long sequence six times to get all the rewards. There were three different maps, to its credit, but that didn't change the fact that you were playing the same thing.

The rewards were substantial enough to warrant the playthroughs, but it did start to feel like a chore after two of them.

Grind training in pokemon is the biggest chore in a video game, in my opinion. The frustration it makes isn't worth the reward in the end...

ME2 on insanity. Actually, it's head banging on wall annoying.
I'd go with something like that.

Only I'm referring to the first Mass Effect, having to play through that game to import a Shepard into Mass Effect 2. Even before knowing about ME2 I played through it enough times to make the first game seem more like work than play.

Also, doing jobs in Fable 2, it's not dull, it's just time consuming.

In Pokemon. I WANT to train my 'Mons up to level 75 so my friends and I can partake in a little tournament my friends and I are having, but... It's just so goddamn boring! I mean... unholy FUCK! I can't even remember the last time I've been so bored playing a game. Not angry, unamused or confused but just... bored. Sleepy. Slothful. Lulled. Lethargic. All wonderful words I use to spruce up the fact that I want to take a nap on my DS.
