When/how did you realize WWE wrestling was fake?

I always knew it was fake, but it was confirmed when I saw some A-hole get thrown out of the ring and beat to shit. Then steal the mic from a judge and say "I am the greatest wrestler of all time! This fight doesn't matter!"

Like most other "realisations" (Christmas, sex, religion, etc) there's no real defining point. It's like a natural evolution. If forced, I'd say it was during the Goldberg era, where he'd have one match but his streak would go up by 5. After 10 minutes, it'd be up by 6. He must've had a match in the parking lot. That's how those things work, right?

Then again I don't even know if that IS WWE or some other wrestling show but meh, unless it's UFC then it's probably fake :p
Oh Scott Steiner, will you ever not suck? :p

EDIT: Just so you know, your .gif is from TNA.
You think thats fake?

Outfaked. I win at that. (Trying to be funny)

I was a fan of wrestling for about two weeks when I was 11 but I realized that the story lines just felt scripted (which they are of course) and that those fake kicks I thought only I noticed happened one two many time to not be done of purpose. Never liked WWE too much anyway.

I know that spot in the Money in the Bank match was supposed start differently. That part was kind of made up on the fly.

EDIT: Plus, I always thought as a kid that the name change from "World Wrestling Federation" to "World Wrestling Entertainment" was a little weird. lol[/quote]

Don't know if you care but the name change came around as the result of a lawsuit by the World Wildlife Fund because they used WWF before wrestling did.

Never saw the stuff as a kid, so I had no real opinions on the reality of it. That is, until I heard about the story-lines and "wrestling villains". Pretty obvious it was all a load of bollocks after I heard that. :/

I think that "scripted" is a better word than "fake". It's been pointed out on this thread that wrestlers are highly trained athletes, and they work very hard to entertain you.

Personally, I love wrestling. It's entertaining as hell. I know that the guys aren't really getting hurt, but I really don't care, I like getting lost in the fantasy that is pro wrestling.

By the way, for anyone who is wondering why "WWF" changed to "WWE" it's because the World Wrestling Federation was sued by the World Wildlife Fund, and the wrestling federation lost and had to change their name.

I used to watch it quite a lot when I was younger, ECW was my favourite. But as it became more modern, and I got older, it just became too fucking stupid to even remotely take seriously. It was basically during the time DX made their "return" and you had that shit with the Spirit Squad and whatever. It was during those times where I realised it was all just glorified actors and stuntmen. Oh, and the horrid attempt at being funny also helped drive me away from it.

EDIT: I even still have some DVD copies of old ECW pay per views. I watched them sometime last year for the nostalgia. Good stuff.

10 years old. I was playing around with the son of my uncle then girlfriend and I put him in a backbreaker. Damn near sent the kid to the hospital. I did not understand that they are professionals that train to do things like that for years.

A long time ago, when I was about 8. I didn't ever really like wrestling though, so I never really cared.

They're not exactly good actors.
This, it's not exactly convincing. I guess the point is that you should enjoy it while knowing it's fake and just enjoy what you see. Kinda like CSI in a way...

I found out when i was watching WCW so about aged 7-10 when it was blatantly obvious that the guy wasn't slapping the other guy at all.

When you see people like Shawn Michaels and considering he is a great worker and can sell moves properly.

Well it isn't fake per say. Its a very physical thing that you need to be a well trained and fit individual to partake in. People jumping off ladders and landing on their opponents outside of the ring is no CGI.

The storylines are hilariously fake, the punching and kicking is generally meant not to cause injury. The "finishers" are pulled off in a way that look impressive and painful but their impact is reduced as much as possible. Fights are scripted to an extent. The participants in WWE know who is due to win a match for example and act it out accordingly.

But the fact remains, injuries occur, wrestlers train and prepare very carefully and work together to ensure that the entertainment they provide is done as safely as possible. Those that don't accept this are soon kicked off the program if they are hired at all.

WWE isn't all fake, but it is scripted. Like a stunt show with big muscles and dodgy nicknames.
It is still Fake fighting.
None of the moves they do inflict any damage, injuries happen when people miscalculate their stunts.
But I think OP means "When did you figure out that the fighting in WWE was just pretend?"

Lol...

None of the moves they do inflict damage?

Please examine this video and describe at which particular moment it failed to cause and damage? I'm not even going to bring up the high flying moves because it should go without fucking saying...

Don't make woefully ignorant statements about how a full contact sport that involves lifting people into the air and dropping them on their heads doesn't cause them pain or injury?

A better question is at what point did you watch professional wrestling for the purposes of entertainment and assume it wasn't fake?

The fights are scripted not fake. There's a difference. It's like saying a movie screen kiss is fake because the actors are being told to do it...

HE wasn't dropped on his head, he was dropped on his neck/upper back, which is where you WANT to fall.

Besides in a real fight THAT would never happen, as they spent way to long hugging before the suplex.

Compare MMA to Wrestling and you will instantly see the difference...

That is what they call it wrestling. It's an olympic sport, popular in many various cultures for millenia. Go look it up.

You can't compare it to MMA, because that is a brawl. I'm not denying there is a difference between fighting and wrestling.

You are arguing that wrestling is fake and doesn't cause injury or pain... You are wrong. If you won't accept it from me than please take a minute or two to hear it from a professional.

I did actually say that it does cause injury... which means pain is included. But it is caused by mishaps and not by will... the fighting in it self is referred to as fake because the fighting is staged, and most of the moves are choreographer between the two fighters.

Again I will point to MMA, the look on an MMA fighter and a WWE wrestler at the end of a normal match say it all.
