When do you consider a game to be finished? When the stats say 100% or when you've finnished to story or have go as meny acchivements as you can be bothered to get?

Since I've never got 100% I say its when you've done as much as you can be bothered to do before the its not fun and just becomes a chore to get it done

Basically what you said. IMO opinion, I have 100% completed the game when playing feels like a choir rathe than fun.

I think a game is finished the second the credits roll. However, it isn't completed until you get 100% (or 200% for some strange games).

Once I get the good, or best ending and play any additional missions after the game is done.

I'm a completist, so 100% for me. With games like GTA, I will attempt 100% until it becomes a chore to boot up the game anymore. Some games are just too big, and by the time I'm bored with playing them there's usually a new game out.

Very interesting topic. Better than the "ask a" threads anyway.

when I'm 5% away from completing a game but can't, I cry and get rid of it so it won't hurt me anymore (I just for the life of me couldn't get all the freeflow medals in batman. I was so close to that platinum!)

Vary's per person, usually after getting 100% i start doing fun things in the game. Examples:

Resident Evil 4: Knife only run / Grenade only run (failed :( )
Batman AA: No upgrade, no gadget, no gargolye, no detective mode Hard run (very fun to do actually).
Metal Gear Solid 4: Tux + Unsilenced pistol. Imma james bond!
Metroid Prime: lowpercent run.

There's so many ways to completely change a game to make it fresh again, you just need some imagination.
So for me, most (good games) are never complete;D

For me, it's when the credits roll. Striving for 100% completion feels like work to me. I didn't pay to work.

I did get well addicted to speedrunning Super Metroid on the SNES. It's like an art form!

Best game to replay for 100% was Goldeneye N64. Had to complete the levels in increasingly difficult and ridiculous times, but each time you did one you got a cheat! Very addicitive!

I consider the completion of a games story line the official end of the game. Continuing on to 100% completion isn't something I consider necessary [says somebody who has never achieved 100% anything]

Of course in this day and age of trophies and achievements; some could consider unlocking every achievement/ trophy as being another indicator that you have 'beaten a game'

Ahhh, but I've played games that aren't done after the credits roll, there is still more story :]
Nice pic, btw.

OT: I think the game is "finished" when you feel that sense of accomplishment after you beat the main story, then do all whatever other secondary missions you feel are necessary. The game is "completed" once you complete the whole story line, get all there is to collect/buy, and do all the secondary missions.

The in-game menu has to say 100%.

If there isn't some percentage indicator, then the game is completely finished when the credits start.(assuming there aren't special costumes and secret rooms to find)

Thanks. :) And you bring up a good point. I still think secondary missions count more towards completing a game, but if there is still relevant story after the credits, then I suppose the game isn't finished. However, it needs to actually have something to do with the main plot. If it's just random quests or collectibles, I think of them as optional.

This depends on the game itself. If the game is sorely lacking in replayability, one time is enough to consider it finished, without any kind of effort necessary to complete 100% (It's all optional in my opinion). If on the other hand a game has great replayability, it can potentially never end, even it is 100% completed. Some games can never actually end. (Tetris would be a good example)
