I'm sorry, I do not understand what you are trying to say with your comment. Just to clarify, I gave a comprised example of a typical troll post. Please explain what you mean with not very nice and it might not have been ok

I really don't care for trolling, namely because it tends to include taking pranks and jokes much too far.
I mean, teasing? Hoaxes? Go ahead; there's fun to be had for everyone there if you do it right.
But trolling on its own is just kinda selfish and disruptive, and doesn't fit in any non-hostile environment.

And more to the point, people who troll maliciously seem to be compensating for a lack of control in real life. I'm not saying this as a matter of lashing out at trolls, but trolling is a lot like bullying, and bullies tend to have a plethora of issues. If they hide behind this behavior, then they're never going to get the help they need.

i was taking what you said out of context as a joke because i thought it was ironic and obvious enough to come off as light-hearted

your real point was clearly stated and i understood, i had no disagreement or criticism, and was pretending to think it was trolling, which it clearly is not

the thing about it not being "ok" was just a reference to the original question

so to summarize, i was saying that it was not ok to just say "MW sucks ect...", even though you actually only said it as a example of something a troll might say, and in no way were trying to put anyone down, thats why i thought it was funny

Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning dissimulation or feigned ignorance) is a rhetorical device, literary technique, or situation in which there is a sharp incongruity or discordance that goes beyond the simple and evident intention of words or actions. Ironic statements (verbal irony) typically imply a meaning in opposition to their literal meaning.

I just don't get trolling. How do you get pleasure out of pissing random people off? Anyway I think it's not ok when the discussion is about something personal or sad in nature. If you want to be a idiot and say that My Little Pony sucks in a thread talking about it's good aspects (IDK, first thing that came into my head) then go ahead but if it's a thread about someone losing a loved one or going through some sort of crisis then no, just no. It's just plain rude and horrible.

EDIT: If it's someone being silly and just trying to make people laugh then that's ok and even enjoyable sometimes. But serious trolls are just annoying.

Me, I never got the point of trolling. The people who "deserve" to be trolled are ALWAYS too thick to comprehend satire and the rest of us just get annoyed. So I'd have to say it's never ok.

Particularly bad would be trolling someone who just admitted being suicidally (sp?) depressed. I've witnessed that. Other touchy subjects are human tragedy that the victim could not avert. Real life example: giving hair accessories to a young girl who's bald from chemotherapy. I've witnessed that too.
