It certainly sounds like it - especially if they are established associations, like Monday is *almost always* red or something. I should be wary of setting myself up as an expert here - but then where does one actually go if one wants to be 'tested' for this condition? =P I participated in some research, and they tested me there...

I don't know if this is the same thing but In the game Neverwinter Nights 2, you come across these 2 dwarves who spoke mostly using the words "yes" and "no". I can't really explain it so for those of you who played it would know what I'm talking about. I found it to be weird but i actually understood some of it. Could anyone else confirm this or am I the only one here who played it?

Yeah, Monday feels like a red.

I don't really have it for most things, but I do when I listen to/compose music. I think there's a relation there. Do you play any instruments, or are you particularly interested in music?
I am very interested in music - I play the cello in a semi-professional orchestra, so I'm exposed to my music/colour/shape synaesthesia a lot! I can also play the piano a little, but that's a whole different set of associations, and its solo, not orchestral - when you have that many instruments playing that many parts in one space it can get overwhelming, but in a good way.

If you have colour music associations it's perfectly possible you have synaesthesia - there are lots of different kinds and lots of different strengths. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that everyone has it to some degree. =)
Piano is not necessarily solo. Not at all.

But, I have intense musical synaesthesia. And I mean INTENSE. Like every time I hear 'Duel of the Fates' I see a styrofoam cup. And that's the tame one I actually tell people.

Whoa! That is intense...what else? And I realise piano doesn't have to be solo, but when I'm playing it is - and it's a solo I'd die of embarassment for if anyone actually *heard* me playing! =D

Well what I'm theorizing, is that it stems specifically from music. In otherwords, someone who isn't talented musically, won't do the color association. (And folks don't start telling me stuff like: "My friend does this, but he doesn't play a single instrument!")

It doesn't necessarily have to be playing an instrument, it could even be a subconscious understanding of rhythm and melody, etc. Or maybe the ability to quickly learn an instrument if they were to try.

That's an interesting theory - I know that my synaesthesia definitely helped me when I was learning the cello, and it still helps me when I'm playing in orchestra, although I definitely wouldn't call myself intrinsically talented! *sigh* =P I assume you mean the specific kind of synaesthesia between *music* and something else like shape/colour/taste?

I guess I've always just put it down to some interesting wire-crossings in the fizzing electrical network that is the human brain, but your theory is an intriguing one! =) Care to elaborate?

Similar, but I get:

Red 2
Orange 3
Yellow 4
Green 5
Blue 6
Violet 7
Gray 8
White 9
Thats what electronics does to you (namely resistor colour codes).

I had a friend who associated each individual letter with a color. I myself do not have it.

I don't really know if I have it or not, but I associate sounds and melodies with geometric patterns and forms, most of which are so complex I can't even begin to describe them.
One example is that when Stairway to Heaven is playing a see in my mind a 100 sided die form from a hundred smaller pieces, twist and chacge form into a cylinder which bends and warps into forms i can't explain.

Until now I have never heard of this condition. I don't have it, but I do understand it and things like it, like this.

There was a study done I've heard about where they went around a multi-lingual beach showing random people 2 shapes (one spiky, one curvy) and asking which should be called "Kiki" or "Boobah", and most people put the spiky shape with the spiky sounding word and the curvy shape with the softer sounding word.

That kind of universal agreement on what words sound right to describe things could have really helped language kick off - it makes it a lot easier to start using words for things if other people can figure out what you mean from the sound of the word, even if the thing in question doesn't make a sound you can imitate.
Some things just seem to go together. And Monday is definetly red. Maybe yellow, sort of. But teusday is yellow. Wednesday is green.

I don't know if i have this disorder but i do associate people i know with numbers.
I can call up my friend Mikhail and call him 56 instead of his actual name, and everytime i see 56 i think of Mikhail.

All of my friends have numbers i associate them with (random numbers).

I don't have synaesthesia but I like to think certain colours match certain open chords on guitar. I don't, like think about it I'm playing or anything, but:

A: Red
B: Purple
C: Yellow
D: Turqoise
E: Blue
F: Orange
G: Green
No such thing as a B or F open chord :p
Not without alternate tunings anyway.
I do associate E power chord with red for some reason though.

I don't have it, but my brother in law does. He associates songs with colours, lighter accoustic stuff tends to be black.

They are not open chords... they don't have open strings, they are therefore called barre chords.

Oh that's why they're called open chords. You'd have thought I'd know that by now. Anyways I can totally make a B open Chord. Obviously can't do F.
