I have really bad insomnia sometimes (like, I won't sleep more than two or three hours a night for weeks). For the bad times, I take sleeping pills (but I have to be really careful and take the right brand, because one kind had the opposite effect and I was so wired I was all but bouncing off the walls for a couple of hours), but for nights when I can't sleep because my brain is whirling around too much, I have a special playlist on my computer of soothing music that I put on. It helps distract my brain because I focus on that, and then the next thing I know, I'm waking up because my alarm is going off.

Warm milk, cold bedroom, and very quiet ambient noise (usually one track of something put on repeat for me). If that doesn't work, I pop a couple melatonin.

I just think about things with my always active mind. Other than that I generally don't fall asleep easily. Hell, when I don't have to go to school the next day, I stay up until 3, like I am right now.

If you're not sleepy at sleepy time then sleepy time it ain't! Sleep when required, fight the "normal" sleep pattern!

Go watch TV for a while until I feel more tired, then go back to bed. If this results in failure, repeat.

What do you think about to try to make yourself fall asleep? I end up audiating some song in my head or considering the things I must do the following day.
THIS THREAD ISN'T HELPING!

It's 0323 my time and I don't appreciate you making a thread that's relevant to my immediate condition and goads me into prolonging my self-inflicted torture and sabotage!

...

I do pull-ups and then collapse on my bed repeating to myself:

"I will remember my dreams" x1,000

I have fanciful dreams that I actually shake myself out of. Imagine in a dream you're about to shoot a basketball and suddenly you're shaken awake by yourself as you attempt the motion lying down.
I do this sometimes too! Usually it's when I'm really tired because I've just woken up after no sleep and so I fall asleep without realizing it, thinking I've gone off to do whatever, then I rudely awake myself by attempting some complex action. It really is a bizarre feeling.
indeed it is. I usually awaken going "wtf? dang..."
Once or twice I have done it during a rather... "involved" dream. *cough* Weird phenomenon is weird.

I think I'll be heading to bed, now. Judging by my oddly calm demeanor at the moment, I'm guessing that I'll be thinking about the comfy mattress and appreciate its precense.

Good night.
Sleep well. I'm gonna go hit the sack as well. See you later, fellow Escapists.
I remember I was getting chased in a dream, and I woke up and immediately went from laying on my back, to flipping forward into the push-up position, and then sprung my legs forward and jumped up-- looking around and realizing a few seconds later that I was standing alone.

On my bed.

At 4 AM.

I carefully laid back down again, looking suspiciously at my dirty clothes hamper.

There's a monster in there, somewhere, and one of these days, I'll prove it.

I usually think. A lot. Like really bad.
Sometimes I'll imagine some story or location or something. Other times I'll reflect on things that I've done.
Certain times, like the past week, I've been excited over what would happen next in Half-Life 2.. Because I'm playing it. Even as I speak.
