When was the last time you cried and/or teared up during a video game?

Portal

I know, sounds stupid, but I started to tear when laughing my ass off so hard at the end song, then realizing it was over. I want to applaud Valve for their marvelous creation, but then kick their asses for not making it longer with more complexity. Ellen McLain (the AI voice) now has my deepest respects as a VA.

But yes, only Portal. (Unless you count sweat falling from my eyes after a GameBoy original Tetris marathon run. 18 hours will rot the mind.)

I rarely ever cry, for any reason. It takes real emotional shock for me to cry. Video games can't do it. But I can be moved to the brink of tears - where, if it was real, I would be crying my eyes out.

The death of Eli Vance in Half Life 2: Episode Two brought me to the brink of tears. It wasn't just seeing him die. It was seeing his last actions and hearing his last words, combined with Alyx's reaction. The scene was beautifully crafted. I agree with Yahtzee about Valve's skill - they are true masters of their art.

Another scene in Half-Life 2 moved me emotionally. During the chapter "Highway 17", when you come to the house that has just been raided by two Combine soldiers, I saw the charred bodies outside and realized what had just happened. I was driven to righteous anger. I ran over one soldier, then beat the other one to death with my crowbar. I later emptied all surplus ammo into their corpses. Then I crowbared the soldiers at the roadblock.

I saw that one coming. I thought FFVII was crap. But I guess a lot of people like it. Plus it's funny how you said that was the last time you cried and then went on to say the last time you teared up was during Mass Effect. So which one is it buddy? Lol.

Anyway, tearing up during a game is cool... for chicks.
Always the foolish ones who think that, or the mindless drones who onely play 'violent' games.

I have never cried because of a video game. I never find them emotional. They are a game, to be played how you like.
Fair enough, not everyone is touched emotionally by games, though alot of people dont play games with relativly deep characters and/or a deep story that you can connect to.

While I cant think of a time ive actually cried during a videogame, ive certainly teared up a few times.

COD4 - After the nuke went off, mainly because I'd just rescued that downed pilot, but also because of it having you crawling around afterwards.
FF7 - Aerith, nothing else to be said about that really...
HL2 - Eli's Death. Also when Alyx got seriously injured.
MGS - Sniperwolf, her death was one of the more touching ones in the series, though the end of MGS3 welled me up a little.

Gotta say, I love how so many guys think its bad to cry or show any signs of being upset at anything other then their favourite team loosing at football or something.
Like most of them are scared that they will become a sissy or something, when infact they are just becoming mindless drones by closing themselves off.

I don't cry, being sad at the end of a video game is like finding out your girlfriend broke up with you after tearing up your house because the whole time she had sex with 3 other guys while you slept on the bed the whole time!!!

(WTF)0_o?????????????????????????????????????

I was quite upset when lester died at the end of Another World.
As well as the end of Outcast when Marion is shot after everything you have gone through.
Both quite similar endings too.

I think the last time I teared up was at the end of Luminous Arc for the DS. I hate it when girls have to die. Though I didn't really care that Aerith died I know alot of people who still claim that to be the most powerful moment in a video game they've played.

Other then that it was probably when I was 12 and finally beat Mike Tyson's Punchout. The power of being able to rub that into your friend's faces is worth a tear or two.

Mass Effect made my eyes misty, but no real crying. For some reason, the end of Lunar Legend always does it for me, or going back and playing FFVII

I know most of you are console players, so i'm going to disturb you by saying I teared up playing World of Warcraft.
Now hear me out before you start calling me a 5 year old loot baby.

It was the first night of Ahn Qiraj opening and my entire guild had been preparing for months for it. We were all ready to dive head first into the hardest dungeon released in a completly new raiding environment away from blackrock mountain.

The excitement and tension was incredible, back when raiding was mostly about friendship. Unfortunatly when I got home from work, I found the guild leader had formed up an hour early because all the under 21's had gotten home from college and school long before me.

I felt abandoned and alone, standing outside the entrance I knew I would not get a spot for many days. All the time I had spent discussing and preparing was wasted. I suppose I could'nt really blame anyone but myself, and that just made me feel worse.

Just knowing that my guild was having a great time without me was pretty depressing. I took a week off from the game untill things settled down and the leader started missing my presence.

Most emotional moment?

The Darkness, when Jenny takes a bullet right in front of you.

I practically dropped the controller, my hands were shaking so much, both out of sadness and sheer rage. That fat motherf*cker was gonna die.

Slow.

Not to beat a dead horse, or a dead thread for that matter, I guess you could save I cried while playing Mario Cart 64. I paused to use the restroom, and when I came back, I started playing, not realizing my fly was down. During gameplay, I quickly zipped back up, catching myself in my zipper.

It brought tears to my eyes.

Weighted Companion Cube? I was pissed.

Yume Miru Kusuri? More NERD RAEG.

KotOR? Lemme get back to you on that.

If you count sitting on your butt and reading text for 5 hours to be a game, then I nominate planatarian.

Halfway through, I bawled like a baby. And then when the end neared... ... ...

The dams had bneen breached. Let's just say I have never felt so sad in my life.

Never, because I'm not a emotional douche bag. Games can be sad, but I don't get teary over a punch of pixels.
Why, when you say it like that, I feel like I should be ashamed over this. But I'm not.

It happened to me in Beyond Good And Evil, shortly before leaving Hyllis, and I got a bit emotional in Homeworld, when returning to Kharak after the first few missions. I can't remember more "incidents".

I think I have a once or twice, actually. Can't think of specific examples, though.
The only time I distinctly remember crying about anything related to video games was the end of the first Pokemon movie. I know what you're thinking, but in my defense, I was 6.
The only other time I remember specifically remember tearing up over any media (not counting the first time I heard Paranoid Android, and I'm still not sure why) was when I watched that documentary on alternative rock. It was an unfortunate combination of a song (I forget what one) and Cobain's final years.
