I literally dust off the drums and guitar accessories to Rock Band last night. So, I can play Rock Band 2. It was fun. Even though, I was horribly out of practice from not playing these games for a couple of years. Also, I had a hard time accessing the songs I've downloaded in the past.

When was the last time you played Rock Band or Guitar Hero? Did you have problems with downloaded songs that I did?

2008, during my freshman college days. It was good for dorm rooms and nothing more. Playing it alone just seems pathetic, liking playing the X-Men or Simpson arcade game alone.

Hehe, it's a freeware kind of clone of guitar hero where you use your keyboard as the guitar instead. It's cooler than it sounds. Plus it has tons of mod support and the biggest song list out of any other rhythm game.

Maybe sometime late last year or earlier this year.

The only reason I stopped was because both my guitar controller and physical copy of RB3 finally wore out.

Custom songs were keeping me busy for a while.

I've never picked one up, hasn't ever appealed to me. I can't however imagine if I did that it would be the kind of game I would revisit.

2009 I think. Around then, one of my flatmates was apparently vying for 10th/11th place in the top ten guitar hero players in the world, so I imagine he didn't stop until more recent times. I have long been meaning to get it on the WII though, once I get an actual WII.

Couple of years ago. My youngest destroyed my 2nd drumset + cymbols add on while I wasn't looking which left me with a smoldering disgust with the game and my child which will result in relationship/father issues for her and crippling alcoholism and early death for me....

But on a happier note the missus and I were talking about a week ago and she wants to get the game set back up in the family room of our new place for family gaming again. So maybe I can get a new drumset and not destroy both our lives. I'm thinking about waiting to see what Harmonix does since there is a new game/instruments in development, may need/want a drumset that may not be available yet.

Yay.

At a friend's house back in 2010. He was really into Guitar Hero and pestered me to buy an xbox360 for it. I told him if someone made a guitar hero for a real guitar then I would get it.

Then Rocksmith came out and I put 500 hours into it.

I would play more, but most of my instruments went through a building fire which led to them being soaked. They don't work all that well, except the keyboard. I can only keyboard for so long, because my wrists suck.

It looks like all the old instruments will have legacy support.

The thing that sucks for me is I went PS4 from a 360, so no legacy, no previously owned DLC, etc. Also, no pro keys, which is still my favourite part of RB3.

Yeah going to run into that problem as well. I have one plastic RB guitar and the old Guitar Hero guitar, RB keyboard, and RB mic that are still operational; the RB bass I had got trashed over the years. These are all for the 360. My better half is wanting to get a PS4 though, which means new instruments, and not being able to import old content. Pretty hefty investment there. Could run both systems but that means reduced playlists.

I kind of find it amusing that Harmonix's relaunch of Rock Band may end up being "killer app" on which next-gen system I end up getting.

Probably about a year ago. Only reason I stopped was because it was too much effort to fiddle around with cables going back and forth between the 360 and One.

'Bout a year, or so ago. We hadn't played in a long time, and we needed a party game to go with our party. It was an absolute blast, especially when we each had enough booze in us to pick up a microphone. We'll be having another when 4 comes out, and I can't wait.

Never played either game in my life. I'm not sold on the concept.
It's pretty fun IMO. Sort of like interactive group karioki. It's fun to have at a party or something, if you can find songs that everyone can have fun doing. Then just play round robin with the microphone or instruments and have fun with it. You have to not mind looking a little foolish though, and screwing up in front of people, because you will. So if you are the kind of person who is really self-conscious and prone to performance anxiety, it's probably not your thing. Personally, I just love music too much to not have fun with it. Put a good song on there, the kind that gets my blood going, and I don't even care. xD I'll smash on those drums like Animal from the Muppets and have a fucking blast.

OT: Last time I played it was probably....3, 4 years ago? My wife was working for this small publishing company, out of their house. They had a christmas party, and they had the equipment. My old roommate though, is considering getting the new game when it comes out, and if so, I'm sure we'll play with it then.

Probably 2-3 years ago. Whenever the last Guitar Hero got released. The problem is, its not really a "play it every once in a while" game. The control scheme is completely different to anything else, so to play it on the higher difficulties requires almost constant practice. And if I drop down the difficulties, I can hear all the notes that don't have a button press, so it doesn't feel like I'm actually playing the song.

Probably 2009. I still have the PS2 guitar hero controller and the games, but I have absolutely no desire to play them.

Would have been about last month, to find out like all of my instruments have finally ate it, asides the keyboard. Which, uh, just isn't the same. I need my guitar solos.

I couldn't justify getting an Xbone, so I was always going down this path. At least with the PS4, I had friends who had one and more friends getting one. Which also means I might get to play with them on Rock Band 4.

The good news is a USB mic should work, so all I need is a new guitar. The DLC, though? That's gonna hurt.

EDIT: I have a working "bass" and a pro guitar I got super cheap. I don't use the pro guitar, though, because Rocksmith is far superior at "real guitar" and has the benefit of letting me use my SG.
