When will we see a NON-attractive woman in a video-game?

When designing video game characters, Developers.Are.God. There's no excuse for something looking poor because someone had complete control over what they looked like, naturally they will make something that looks attractive so it stands to reason that you will never see an ugly video game character intentionally put there, it's much more likely down to bad design or graphics, or to make them appear somewhat more twisted and evil.

Umm, Chell?
Chell was intentionally pretty rough looking, and she still has a rep as one of the best female characters in gaming.
And lets be honest, it may not quite count, but most customized femsheps look like this:

The same day we have unattractive people as important characters where being unattractive isn't part or their shtick in any form of mainstream media.

(i.e. Probably never.)
I'll add to that by saying they have to be "relatively normal". There are a lot of characters who are pretty ugly, but they also have some unique aspect that negates the need to add physical attractiveness to their character. Garrus would be an extreme example.

What about Ellie from Borderlands 2?

Saying that, I've since learned that if you type "borderlands 2 ellie" into Google images, you'll immediately be presented with the suggestion of "borderlands 2 ellie rule 34". What is wrong with people?

Edit: ninja'd.
I think the better question is, why hasn't Google flagged "rule 34" as an non suggestion return phrase like other porn related words or names.

So I put it to you escapists, in this example who is more unrealistically represented? Because I can't decide.

Well, let's see... the DOA girls are, frankly, hideous and disturbing...

With all this talk of Dragon Age, I'm surprised nobody's said anything about Shale:

Any women in any game before the year 2000 (because the tech was hideous).

Also, Saints Row 3 has the best portrayal of women of any game from 2011 [http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/zj12g5/hey-ash--whatcha-playin---best-game-of-2011].

Mmmmmmm..... so hawt....

Honestly, This thread is pointless in the extreme. Even if there weren't people that would disagree just because they felt like it, the definition changes too massively between each person that there isn't even a viable opinion to be had since the topic is defunct from the word go.

I present to you any game that allows for the player to create their character.

There, now you can make any character of any race and gender and have them be as beautiful/ugly as you wish

Personally, I never found Ashley Williams from the Mass Effect series to be the least bit attractive. Her attitude didn't help, of course, but overall, each time I looked at her, my reaction was basically, "meh".

I'm surprised that nobody has said Rachel yet.

Can I just ask what game that is from? It's the only screenshot I couldn't immediately identify the game it came from.
Binary Domain, she was a British demolition expert.

Oblivion and Skyrim (Unmodded) both feature some pretty hideous women.
I frankly only thought that out of the 2, Oblivion was the only one with particular ugly females.

With Skyrim, the only problem I had with female NPCs were that the Altmer had the weirdest eyes I've ever seen, and that Bethesda, for some reason, doesn't want anyone to kill Maven Black-Briar.

Seriously, you let us wipe with the Dark Brotherhood yet you won't let us bring Maven down a notch in anyway? what's up with that? I'd give anything to hear Bethesda explain that.

Edit: Ellie on the other hand IS over the top outlandish. She is also pretty hilarious.
Ah, Ellie isn't that over the top if you live in the states and have ever gone to a Walmart.
I've lived near folks that aren't far off from her size.

But to each their own, its not for me but if someone wants to be 400 lbs that's their deal.

And I know genetics etc, etc, but the calories aren't absorbed through the air, it requires attention on the eating side.

I like how OP says NON-attractive women as if unattractive women are so rare he can't even remember the word for them.

This is what popped into my head.

But then I remembered that they turn into this.

Which at least appears like it's supposed to be somewhat attractive. Actually still looks pretty ugly to me but whatever.
Of course in the actual game they're all so polygonned you can't really make them out anyway.

How about Lauren Winters from heavy rain. She's pretty plain, if that's the definition of average we're looking for.

So, both in real life and in games, I have seen very few people I would mark as truly straight-up *ugly*, by as objective a definition as I could muster. As in, not just a person I think, "meh, I don't think they're pretty," but more like "how could *anyone* think this is attractive?"

For me, I draw that line at things like exceedingly poor hygiene. Yellowed and crooked teeth, smelly, slumping, dirty, the whole works. Just one of these doesn't actually rule you out; you have to kind of go the whole package. I'd like to draw the line at hugely obese also, but I know there are people who find that just fine, even if it's not the Mainstream.

You don't see that many straight-up slobs in games, probably because people just aren't creating these types of characters.

The images here I'm seeing seem to fall into one of a few categories:

- Masculine women (I find the Dragon Age people *very* attractive, in one of the first few posts in this thread. Like, whoa. I think this says something about people here, although possibly maybe about me and what I want to look like.)
- Fat women
- Aliens that are not shaped like traditional human females
- Disfigured women
- Maybe *two* "average chicks."
