My issue is more what they show. High School is overly portrayed now in many children shows...generally way more fluffy and nice than any real HS. Most kids shows seem to want to turn 10 year olds right into 16 year olds, and thats my real issue.
This! This has been my beef with every Disney show that has come out within the last five years! (With the exceptions of the programming more appropriate for my three year old, and Phineus and Ferb.)

If they aren't trying to make kids smarter(nick jr.), then they're trying to make pre-teens grow up faster like being older is SO much greater than the age they're at(Disney). Don't even get me started on Cartoon Network...

Its called the age set. When someone watches something they attempt to feel like they are the age intended. Also, the shows aren't funny at all. The only one that even hits above the bar nowadays for me was Regular Show. Its no master piece but its definitly funny compared to the other shit.

Well, with the polularity of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and everybody agrees it is LOADS better then the original series were, I think that might begin to change.

Because cartoons were awesome when I was a kid.

Come on we had Thundercats, Super Ted, Batfink, Cities of Gold, Danger Mouse, Bananman and Bucky O Hare.

Not only the coolest characters but the best theme songs (I dare anyone to find a modern theme song in a kids show better than Chip n Dale, Duck Tales, Cities of Gold or Batfink).
Heres one thats able to put up a fight, but it was canceled in '05
I do know what you mean though.

This was an amazing show by the way

I'm 23 years old and I still watch Looney Tunes daily. None of the crap on now can hold a candle to watching Bugs outsmart Daffy and make Elmer shoot him.
i'd still watch stuff like that if i had the channels. Looney Tunes, Animaniacs, X-Men, TMNT, Chip and Dale Rescue Ranger...SO many old shows i'd still watch today and i'm now 25

What you must remember is that you liked them because you were young, and the shows were aimed at kids of you and your age.

Your tastes change, and the shows are still aimed at young kids, while you have grown older.

So why complain about a show that isn't even aimed at your age?
All I have to do is watch a group of kids awe struck by Teletoon Retro and know its still ok to insult horribly shoddy work, no matter what its pointed at.

Its funny because I watched '80s kids cartoons and used to complain that the stuff coming out mid-nineties to early 2000s was "brainless rubbish that wasn't as interesting/funny as what I grew up with". Now the kids who were raised on cartoons from that era say the same thing about today's crop.

The truth is; there are always some gems but, on the whole, you are feeding off nostalgia.

Out of interest I watched a few of my childhood shows again (a couple of years ago) and realised that some of them were just as stupid and juvenile as the stuff that came after. Some of it still held up (or would have were I a kid again) but mostly it was average (often the different shows would have similar plots and moral lessons).

I watched the Simpsons when I was a kid and it holds up pretty well... aside from the really early stuff with the spaztic visuals.

I haven't seen them in a while but Gargoyles, Earthworm Jim and Animaniacs(it was sketch comedy, some of it worked/still works and some didn't/doesn't) still hold up well but I imagine Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Biker Mice from Mars.

I don't care what anyone says the 90's Batman, Spiderman and X-Men still hold up perfectly well today although X-Men needs to be recoloured to deal with the faded cell paint.

When I was little I didn't watch much TV. But I loved the Jonny Quest episodes from 1964-1965, which were from way before my time. The original 1960's Jonny Quest is legitimately better than The New Adventures of Jonny Quest from the mid 1980's, and The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest which I was actually around to see aire during the late 1990's (which notably changed the main character to be a teenager, and also X-TREME!!!!!).

My fondness for the 1960's Jonny Quest is probably why I'm so fond of The Venture Bros..

AMEN, brother. Wespect the wabbit!

And the greatest cartoon short of all time:
"Well, what did you expect from an opera? A HAPPY ending?"

Its not that I hate modern cartoons its just I'm not liking the lack of verity. I'm mainly talking about the big three channels and how it seems they only have around 2 different developers making 5 similar shows. Cartoon Network is especially guilty of this as it seems all its shows are made by the same 2-3 developers. The shows may sound different but they all look and act the same. AND ENOUGH WITH THE RANDOMLY DESIGNED CAST AND ANIMATION IN THESE SHOWS!

Only good cartoons out now are airing on the Hub Channel. Definitely some good quality shows.

One of the main reasons I've seen for why MLP:FiM is considered so good is that many people (myself included) see it as a throwback to how cartoons were in the 90's. The 90's spawned a lot of quality cartoons, so I think it's more than just nostalgia goggles.

I watched a load of DBZ and Power Rangers as a kid.

I still watch DBZ Today and still love it.

Power Rangers however...

It had cool theme songs.

I always used to talk about how All That was such an amazing show and that it only started to suck after the original cast left. Then I went back and watched Pierre Escargo with Keenan...

Part of me died inside. To look at something you have such fond memories of and say

"this is absolute crap"

Sure, for kids it was great fun. But sometimes nostalgia glasses are for the better.

People got killed on kid's TV when I was young (and then became Earth's greatest defence against the Mysterons!). Production values were excellent, stories were cohesive and well put-together, Kid's TV wasn't seen as a place where TV names go to die and we weren't afraid to scare the living daylights out of kids either.

I suppose nostalgia glasses have some sort of effect, but seriously, is there any comparison whatsoever between this and this? You tell me which looks better.

IDK, I've never seen a show quite like Dragon Ball Z (funimation Dub), I never watched it as a kid, always thought it looked weird, then last year I started watching it out of curiosity and it blew my mind, finished it in like 2 weeks watching it online. Seriously nothing like it.
Im in College, no nostalgia here.
