When You Joined The Escapist, Did You Expect to End Up How You did?

I was thinking about this earlier today. When I got here, I was expecting to do normal forum things. Talk about games, maybe talk about some other things in off-topic, but mostly just watch videos and do random things on the forums. Then I found the RP section. I joined one or two RPs, then went into a rather important one. I actually did horrible in it, but it drove me to be better at RPs. And now, a little more than two thousand posts later, I'm a better writer than I ever hoped of being, and I have found some good friends in the people I have met. But, thinking back, I remember how I never dreamed of being in RPs, how I just wanted to talk about games and funny videos on Youtube.

And now the question: Did you expect your stay here on The Escapist to turn out how it has? Do you expect it to change anymore?

I didn't. Especially because it wasn't looking like this until mid-April. For some reason, at that time, I ended up starting to actually post more than a comment daily, and I've had far more fun here than I thought I would. I never thought people would actually notice me, but for some reason, people actually do now.

I also never in a million years thought I'd actually make some friends here. I've made really great ones here. This site has been nothing but positive for me, but originally I thought I would just make one comment a day, and if someone responded, fine, if they didn't, who cared? I wasn't know.

*hugs*

I completely didn't expect to fall into usergroups, become as recognized as I have, and get 15k posts. I also didn't expect to be such an Eva fanboy, but I hadn't watched it when I first joined the site.

I never expected to do much more than post in forums, and I've lived up to those expectations.

Honestly, I got pretty much what I expected.

Maybe that would change if I posted more but meh, I'm lazy.

I didn't expect to become as attached as a did. I was reasonably sure I would end up just posting in threads that caught my eye, possibly penning the occasional review or editorial, and on that front, I was more or less correct. I had no idea I would end up visiting the forums on a regular basis, though, something I very, very rarely do. When it comes to forums, I usually make an account, post for a few weeks and then lose interest and vanish off the face of the Internet.

I still don't know what it is about The Escapist that keeps me coming back.

Its cause your a ninja with these new threads Marter.

Oh and being a good guy and all helps too :p

OT: I didn't think I would talk nearly this much, I thought I would just lurk and comment a little. But this site had such a nice forum template that it makes me want to comment so I kept doing it and now I have my modest 6k posts over my (I think) 7 months here... As well as the whole "Pantsman" thing shocked me a bit too, I knew I liked Pants and was weird, but I didn't think it would get to be like this :p

(Also meeting really cool people and making friends came out of left field)

So for for me, everything is going exactly as planed.

The Plan: Absolutely none. Just kinda stay back read, once in a wile I'll log in to respond to something, then I keep going for a wile, get bored and go do something else. Perfect, right?

No, I thought I would be somebody, but instead I'm all washed up no friends or anything...

OT: I didn't have a plan excatly when I joined the escapist, I never though I would join a RP but hey there pretty fun. Also my spelling and grammar has improved leaps and bounds before I could barly form a sentence on a good day. Now I can form a barly coherent sentence everyday.

I had originally planned to just come here when I was bored and watch ZP. Two years and almost 1800 posts later I can't think of anything else other than coming here, and video games of course.

I actually thought about this, this morning as I finished my 1000th post. I never intended to even post in the forums when I got here. Mainly it was for the videos, reviews and articles, but then one day I just had to comment...

Eh, I joined after watching Yahtzee videos for the greater part of a year. Originally, all I was here for was for some discussion about games with a community that wasn't as retarded as half the users of Gamefaqs I've encountered. I never expected that I'd end up joining user groups or visiting the Forum Games. Hell, back then I didn't think I'd even make it past 200 posts.

I thought I would end up mainly talking about games, but now I spend more time in the religion and politics board. I also thought I would encounter more people who think like me, now I feel like the designated heretic/blasphemer/pariah. But I do think I learned how to articulate and defend my opinions better, and in doing so came to understand what I was talking about on a greater level.

ahh i generally watch videos and look at interesting and controversial subjects here

its hard to talk about things like politics and religion when all your friends are mostly of below average intelligence, dont care, and being stoners

and i suprised i have gone gonzo by my name? yes do i care all that much? to be honest no

People Roleplay even on the Escapist? Lordy... To the poster of this, get an IM service and get some RP friends, then roleplay there. It's 100,000,000% better than any forum could do. Even if your partners are standing there in wait for your post, it's better still. Why? It's a lot quicker, it's a lot easier since with posts it's considered bad form to make a small post, whereas on an IM everything's happening so quickly that the ebb and flow isn't disturbed by quick messages. Just a suggestion though, because IM roleplaying is a lot more fast-paced and you have to think on your feet. It can either make or break a roleplay. Someone can flub a few lines and totally unimmerse everyone, or everyone can be extremely immersed into it because there's a lot less contrived areas.
