When You Joined The Escapist, Did You Expect to End Up How You did?

but did I expect to be visiting multiple times a day and make more than a few comments here and there? nope!
in fact, I joined just to take a quiz haha

This is pretty much exactly what happened to me. I only expected to join and do the goddamn quiz that I wanted to do. I came here for ZP mainly, so participating in the forum wasn't something I'd anticipated at all. Turns out it's not as bad here as I thought it'd be.

Exactly this. I thought I'd post one supposedly witty comment on a relatively insignificant thread, yet here we are. Granted, I'm no celebrity, but I've made about 70000% more posts than I intended to.

You tend to expect this kind of thing when you used to troll forums, not for the sake of trolling forums, but because you were stupid enough to be on the internet when you were twelve.

I just joined for the videos and every week quizes but then I started exploring the forum and now i am almost writing a few posts at a daily basis which I never thought would happen.

I never expected to read the forums as much as I do. I've never been a part of a forum-based community before (except for RPs), so I thought I'd just be sitting back and collecting badges for watching videos. I actually feel like I might be being drawn into the community, now. That's a real compliment to the quality of the posters.

Who knows? I might actually be recognised by someone one day. Ooooh.

I was thinking about this earlier today. When I got here, I was expecting to do normal forum things. Talk about games, maybe talk about some other things in off-topic, but mostly just watch videos and do random things on the forums. Then I found the RP section. I joined one or two RPs, then went into a rather important one. I actually did horrible in it, but it drove me to be better at RPs. And now, a little more than two thousand posts later, I'm a better writer than I ever hoped of being, and I have found some good friends in the people I have met. But, thinking back, I remember how I never dreamed of being in RPs, how I just wanted to talk about games and funny videos on Youtube.

And now the question: Did you expect your stay here on The Escapist to turn out how it has? Do you expect it to change anymore?

Well I didn't expect to be made a moderator initially

And I like that the core base community of the Escapist hasn't changed - its part of what makes this site so great

Well I'm pretty much like I was when I joined, only I know one or two more people. Oh, and I have a larger interest in Killing Floor now... I really must buy that soon.

Sadly, I don't remember how it was like when I joined all I know is that I've become less dickish since then, though that is argueable.

I can honestly say I didn't expect anything that has happened to me so far to actually happen. When I was linked here by [user]Fat Man Spoon[/user], I expected to vanish quickly and drift away within a couple of months.

How wrong I was. I certainly didn't expect to set up camp in the Forum Games and RP section, that's for sure.

As for it changing in future, it probably will do. For better or for wirse, we shall have to see.
But that's all part of the fun...

I never expected to have one of the highest post counts, that's for sure. There was a time when I thought I'd never reach Neonbob. And now I'm the third highest.

I also never expected to have so many friends here or become hooked on User Groups. And I certainly never expected to create a group that would have over 100 members.

So, pretty much everything that's happened to me on my stay here, I never expected it.
