When you're anticipating a new game, how much footage of it do you watch beforehand?

I'm writing this, because today a new video of Uncharted 3 came out. I began watching it, but 5 seconds in, I realized that it was not a trailer, but a segment of a cutscene. I quickly shut it down, and proceded to be angry because I am even more hyped by that 5 second footage, and I can't see it, because I don't want anything to be spoiled.

Am I the only one being like this? Or perhaps some of you don't care, and will just as well have a good time.

Edit: Fuck, wrong forum. Can a mod move it perhaps?

I really really don't want to watch too much of a game before I play it. Right now I'm waiting for Dragon Age 2 to come to my mailbox (goddamn Europe, releasing it 2 days after USA, it's so unfair!) and it's really difficult to avoid accidental mini-spoilers around the web. I'm thinking of cutting of my computer access until I actually get the game... Extreme? Maybe, but I HATE getting the full game experience spoiled.

Depends on the game, really. I try to avoid all information until a game's almost out, because I don't want to make the wait interminably long. I'm less worried about things being spoiled.

When I'm looking forward to a game I never look at ANYTHING having to do with story, but I check out everything I can about game mechanics and the like.

I actually watch very little footage of a game I am excited about, gameplay or no. I might watch a trailer or 2, or maybe a video-review, but that is it. I do not want to spoil all the good bits of the game for myself. I like to have everything as new and fresh as possible when I buy the game.

If it's a game I know I'll buy then I avoid anything that might have spoilers like the plague. If it's a game I'm not sure about then I might look up reviews that I trust or game play vids but I still try and avoid spoilers.

Depends on the game:
If it's your regular game, I take a look at footage once in a while, to see how it's looking.
If it's an Elder scrolls game... Fucking everything!

I usually only watch what gets posted here on the Escapist, but if a games awesome enough I will go looking for as much footage as I can. For example, Dark Souls. I still know so little about that game, any new scrap of information is like a small taste of crack after weeks of... lack of crack.

I watch next to nil. In case of Crysis for example, I only watched the Tech-Demo and Multiplayer to get the feeling, but no way in hell am I going to watch any actual game footage.

First, I'd like to start off saying when it comes to movie trailers, I'm with you guys. I've lost track of how many trailers I've seen where one ineptly included image or phrase gives away the majoirty of the plot. Or mabye they'll just use the best jokes, giving myself a wee giggle when I see said joke in the full context, but in the end denying me the chance of a really good laugh.

I guess I'm clearly more multiplayer oriented then the majority of the posters in this thread but I personally will NEVER buy a game until I can see:

A non-trailer. I could really care less with a trailer . FF14 had an amazing looking trailer "Wow thats badass" I thought, too bad it still gives me NOTHING I NEED TO MAKE A DECISION. I need to see something indicative of WHY I should buy this game, which I understand isn't an easy thing to communicate, but none-the-less is something I require. The bastardizatized inception of the movie trailer into the gaming industry feels like a ice-cold cock in the face to anyone who has a brain and can make decisions for themselves. It's like the gaming big-wigs think that the general population is stupid enough to believe that mabye this is what the game actually looks like? I can understand there may be other valid reasons why gaming trailers exist but beyond my aforementioned statement I can't think of a reason.

Gameplay outlining the combat mechanics: Again I play mostly multiplayer (MAG, MvC3, Socom4 when its out, Starcraft2, League of Legends) where the mechanics are basically what I'll be doing the gaming equivilent of eating and sleeping, I need to know that at the VERY LEAST there's something innovative beyond "look a chest high wall with a cover mechanic" or "bullet-time".

Urually quite a few videos to get me even more hype up for it (yes this can be a bad thing if the game is out in a year or some months time but I can't help it).

I look at enough to be sure that the gameplay is good(at this point I can tell by seeing a game in action), once I've (pre)ordered it, it's media blackout.

Depends on the game time. If it's an MMO, I'll look at anything I can get my hands on, because they don't tend to revolve around plot in the same way.

If it's a plot-driven game, then I don't tend to look at much. I'm not really one for watching videos, so I just tend to read bits here and there.

I usually just either look at the reviews (that I know won't spoil the game) and the main trailer. I do hate it though when the trailers are just cut scenes or they have spoilers in them. It's one thing to use the trailer to help set up the plot, but it's another to give away everything...

If I'm anticipating, as in pre ordered it it's either Fallout or Mass Effect and in this case NONE. because it would KILL me to watch.
