So fellow escapists, where are you right now? And what should you be doing? I myself am at school in the last of 5 hours of business studies and the escapist is the only thing keeping me sane.
I'm sitting in my chair wondering why you made this thread?

Honestly, was it boredom? Because this thread seems completely pointless to me. You already know what most people are going to say, and even then the few exceptions won't surprise you. This knowledge isn't useful, so why ask for it?

At home, in front of the computer, doing my history assignment, which I really should have done yesterday. After this, I'll do my science assignment, which I also really should have done yesterday.

I'm at home. I just finished lunch. I'm going back to school in a few minutes. I have some homework to finish before the end of the school day. I will probably come back after school and play Timesplitters 2, a game I got for about $8 out of a reduced bin.

I am in my dormitory, on a chair, in front of my computer monitor. My bed is about 2ft to the right of me, and a window is about 2ft to the left. Behind me is another desk and a large trunk containing the clothes that I should be unpacking.

Oh god, theres always one. What is wrong with this thread exactly? I genuinely don't know what most people are going to say and why do you think a thread is pointless just because you aren't learning anything 'useful'. This is off-topic after all, there are many other 'pointless' threads you could be trolling.

1. I've already said what I think is wrong with this thread.

2. Most people are going to be at their computer when replying to this, aren't they? It follows, therefore, that most people will be at home. You're a smart guy, I'm sure you can figure that out.

3. The reason I think this thread is pointless because I'm not learning anything useful is because I'm not learning anything useful. That was my reason. It has already been stated.

4. Off-Topic does not mean pointless. Off-Topic, on these forums, means off the topic of games. There are many threads in this forum which are good and interesting and useful which are not on the topic of games, but they are pushed back pages and pages by pointless banality like this.

5. There are may other pointless threads, that's true. By usage of the word "Other" you acknowledge that you are part of the group, do you not? In which case I stand correct. Either way, I do try and comment in those threads.

I'm not picking on you specifically, this thread is just the first pointless [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Escapists-Against-Pointless-Threads] one I could be bothered to comment on.

Why does every thread have to teach you something?
I admit this is fairly pointless, but why does that matter? Around 90 people have contributed to this thread, none of them complained or felt the need to make themselves some kind of pretentious forum police. It's just some light hearted fun.

Judging by your group you have set up there, you must really hate the religion and politics section, all the discussions about gods and the meaning of life etc, these are pretty much perfect examples of "fundamentally unanswerable questions".

1. You've just demonstrated you have the ability to accurately predict the likely answers to this thread, which validates my point.

2. The question here is "Why does pointlessness matter?"
As I already said, all of these supposedly harmless threads have been pushing the genuinely useful or interesting threads further back where they will not be seen. I mean, how many of these [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.106553-The-Escapist-Members-Community-Thread?page=1] have you seen? Besides, there are plenty of user groups made specifically for discussing pointless things.

3. You make a good point; however, a lot of the stuff asked on there is not unanswerable. That's the source of the debate and discussion. There are many different answers, and the discussion comes from evaluating the validity of each claim.

Even then, the questions that are unanswerable on that forum often spark off other related discussion or will impart interesting viewpoints and discussion along the way. Such as those about the meaning of life.

4. Far from it. I am not assuming that my view is inherently right. That is why I am bothering to debate with you rather than just repeating myself. I have no power here other than to persuade. I am trying to persuade you that your thread is pointless. Would I be just as pretentious in praise, or am I only pretentious when I disagree with you?

I did not predict this, it just that that is what some of the replies have been.

Anyway, I have sent you a message as I don't want to carry on arguing with you about such trivial things. I'm sure you know the saying about arguing on the internet and the special olympics...

I have just finished a 10 and a half hour shift at my new job in my hometown which I have recently moved back to. Right now I should be having a beer and sorting out plans for my brothers birthday. I am doing just that. Life is good.
