As many of you already know, the Total War series are strategy games that are set in different eras of conflict. There is a turn based campaign map and a real time battle map. There have been games set in many different time periods, from feudal Europe to the rise and fall of Rome.

What other easily-recognizable periods of war could Total War games be set in? They have done most all ancient warfare and any later than the Napoleonic wars and things wouldn't work as well at a gameplay level.

They could go with ancient Chinese history. Thats got some pretty good wars and stuff that would probably work for the Total War games.

Total War: Manifest Destiny
Total War: The Crusades
Total War: The Conquistadors

and yeah, Total War: Three Kingdoms would be awesome. Though Cao Cao would be overpowered.

edit: Total War: Industrial Revolution (as in, steampunk >_>)

The Medieval 2: Kingdoms expansion already had the crusades and sort of a Conquistadors thing

Edit: dang ninja'd!

Damn, really? I hadn't played Medieval, but I just assumed it was about knights and castles and all that jazz. Didn't expect it to cover Spanish guys from the gunpowder age (as in, muskets, not cannons)

I would like to see it go to world war 1, It would really change up Total War's mechanics, but I think it would be pretty cool

Total war: Moon! Future space laser ship battles!

Honestly, I don't know but human ity has been fighting itself for as long as it has existed so I'm sure they can find some period to do.

How exactly would that work?
Only two orders, entrench and charge.

In my opinion it needs less guns, not more. Make it more about the tactics than the tech.

A Song of Ice and Fire: Total War
There is a medieval mod in development called "Westeros: Total War". I haven't played it but I do like the concept.

Personally, I would love a Rome Total War revist. Ship battles, improved graphics, new world, new units and hopefully better AI. Sounds a little beautiful to me.

Other then going back to revist Rome or moving forward in time and into the genre of RTTS (Real-Time-Tank-Strategy), there isn't that much more they can do that would appeal to a wide audience. China would be interesting, yes, but it is a less-well-known era compared to Medieval or Shogun. Plus, for the market that doesn't care about history, it doesn't have ninjas/samurai.

Well, it would be interesting if the trenches and battle lines would shift. And I'm sure there are plenty of tactics that could be figured out besides entrenching and charging.

and if that doesn't do it, Korean war maybe?
