Where did all the older Escapist users go?

Well, people just leave, and with the health-bar system it is much easier to get banned than it used to be (Just because the blocks stay for a pretty long time).

I got a warning for a low content post a few months after I first joined (over two years ago) and it's still on my stupid health bar. It's been my only rule breaking, ever and they haven't let it slide.

i still lurk around, but i have never been too inclined to participate in the community.

especially since all the old folks are gone, and i cannot relate to these younglings.
i originally came here because yahtzee got picked up from youtube. since then i started watching all the other content, and reading forum posts. for some reason it took me over a year of lurking before i decided to join.

did it for the lulz

actually because of the many reprimands (i noticed while secretly spying) that the mods issue... a forum with serious regulations is something thats hard to find

and because i feel this is also one of the few places where gamers are not encouraged to
compare sizes

also partially because of promises of promiscuous birds online

I came here for ZP, signed up out of boredom, and got sucked into the forums.
While I have not posted anywhere near my first year's rate, I'm still around. Just not lately.
A mix of games and not having anything really worth saying in threads has kept me from posting for a while.

But a lot of older users either left of their own volition or got banned.
I haven't seen Ultrajoe, Labby, or a bunch of old guard in a long time.
But I'm sure they're both around.
Somewhere.
I refuse to let my guard down.

We used to post a lot more though man... what happened, that's something we should look into, new thread, why are all the older members not posting as much?

Actually the main reason is the Escapists poor business practice, like, for example, not paying writers or series. Or the ads, those damn ads... to invasive for some people. Standard ads would suffice i'm sure.

The ultimate fate of all users on these forums is banning, the stupid health bar really needs to go up every month or 2 instead of 6 months.

Now that I've seen what's been happening on these forums for over a year now, I can see it's already entered the Standard Internet Forum Cycle. It's just a matter of time now..

It's just a phenomena I've noticed while growing up with the net. A website forum grows popular, inflates its population, and the first users to leave with each cycle are usually the most mature (or barring that, those with the most overt personality) and the oldest, while the perceivable asshole population continues to inflate as time goes on.
Eventually, the forum just becomes clogged with troll and fad topics until it resets or dies.

The more niche' the forum and the better its moderation, the longer it lasts. The more popular and mainstream, the more it begins to resemble something like 4chan.
It's only natural to move on when a forum or website annoys you more than it entertains/benefits. I just noticed how each "generation" of this becomes progressively more douchey and troll-like each time on average.

Only once have I left an online community I had some vested interest in solely due to the OLD MEMBERS. But I've left many others due to the new trolls and general lack of anything interesting that follows in their wake.
