Greetings escapists! This is my second and hopefully more successful attempt at starting a discussion, still trying to get the hang of this. First try wasn't even a real attempt though, since it was just me saying hi when I first joined, introduction threads are a no no, I get it. This thread will be aimed towards my fellow escapists who are immigrants like me.

Anyways, as I said in my intro, I am a Shia Muslim immigrant from Lusaka, Zambia (born in Madagascar). I am of Indian/Pakistani descent from my dad?s side and Mexican and Native American (Aztec I believe) from mom?s side (quite an epic mix). There are a lot of Pakistani/Indian communities in Africa, most commonly in the South-East region in countries like Madagascar, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, etc (basically all the awesome African countries) And we are called Khojas. I?ve lived in the USA since I was 11 years old and the day the day I came here to stay was January 7th, 2003 (7 years now). Of course, I had been to the USA before on a vacation to Disney World in Orlando, FL so I didn?t know much about the USA at the time other than in movies and TV and had no idea what was in store for me. So it?s like this: me, a kid from Africa where it?s warm pretty much all the time, in New York City where it?s below zero outside (you do the math). Yes my friends, my ?port of entry? was JFK international airport in NYC in January, two years after 911 in the city where it took place and we are a Muslim family (add that to your math). I miss Africa greatly, USA is great and all but here I have nothing while back home I had everything. It?s not the discrimination and hate crimes that bother me, that I can deal with and have always been strong enough to overcome; it?s the feeling of cultural and religious isolation and separation from everyone and everything I knew since 98% of my family is still there.

So to all my fellow escapists who are immigrants: What country are you from? When and where did you immigrate to? How was the experience? Had you been to your new country before immigrating? Do you miss the country you are from? How often do you visit your previous country? What about your family back home?

It?s questions like these that I want to address here, feel free to add whatever other info you like or if you are not an immigrant than you mention about the immigration of another family member.

I was born in dublin. My mother was from west brom and my father was from dublin. I moved from there when i was a few months old as my parents split up. I now live in the city of derry in northern Ireland and have done for the past 16 years almost. Although technically I moved country I did not find the difference too great as I had never lived in dublin for a great amount of time.

Thats about it. Hope this helped

I was born in Kuopio. Spent my youth in Iisalmi (city about 80km north from Kuopio) and now I live in Järvenpää (small town about 50km north from Finlands capital helsinki). That should be enough info for now.

I live in Canada. My dad's parents immigrated to Canada from Switzerland. He was born here, but they moved back when he was 8. My mom's from Switzerland, too. They both moved here in 1987, and I was born in 1991. So I always say I'm Swiss-Canadian. I do hold dual-citizenship, and vote in some Swiss referenda, such as the minaret issue.

I'm sure I have some German and Polish in there as well, since my Grandma grew up in Germany and I think my Great-Grandmother was Polish. Not sure, though, and I don't identify with Poland at all. I identify most with Switzerland and Canada.

Livin' in the States, born in New Hampshire. Parents are both mixed blood of just about every country in Europe (except Italy, which is strange, because we all look really Italian), only thing that really stands out is my mother's mother's mother was native American.

Yeah, I'm about as boring as... I dunno, something really freakin' boring.

I know my great-great grandparents on my mom's side were immigrants from Lithuania and spoke Yiddish, and my ancestors on my dad's side were German. Beyond that, I don't know much about my family origins. I've lived in the U.S. for my whole life, though we've changed states quite a bit.

Well one day in a magical place called Munich a boy left Germany to go to America, his brothers stayed and their families later became Nazis!! And a wealthy aristocrat left France, a drunkard from Ireland left for America, and a Scottish prince left for America, and a Hollish peasant also left for America. The German boy met the Hollish peasant married and owned a plantation in Kentucky. The French Woman married another German fellow, and lived in Virginia. And point being it's a long history.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Moved to live in Connecticut, America for two years when I was 11. Enjoyed it, didn't particularly miss Britain that much.
Returned to live in London and later Tunbridge Wells for my Secondary School education. Moved to Dundee in Scotland for University.
Currently I am in New Paltz, New York State on an exchange programme. I'm enjoying it just as much as the last time as I was here but after 7 months I'm really beggining to miss the UK.

I'm 100% "Celtic" with Scottish parents, grand-parents and great-grand-parents and a tiny bit of Irish somewhere on my mother's side of the familly.

I'm pretty much 100% Anglo-Saxon English (1 billionth of me is some form of Scottish) and living in England - so whilst technically my ancient ancestors immigrated from somewhere in Scandinavia, I'm as native as can be. My Surname, in its exact form, is pretty damn rare too.

Born in Voronesh, Russia. Still live in Russia.
My parents are a coctail of every kind of blood in Europe, maybe that's why my face got a lot from my relatives but not fully copying anyone in particular. And my family is freakin' enormous by now standarts.
