I like mountain tops in Terraria. And in X-Com, I also use Suadi Arabia. Provides coverage for the most regions.
I can't help but slap base number 1 smack dab in the middle of the US. Oh man, I want to play X-Com now.

My minecraft homebase is a three-story, sandstone tower in the middle of a lake connected to my other bases by four canals. First floor is a dock, second floor is a workshop and storage area, third floor is the bedroom with glass walls and a rooftop garden.

Usually, I like to do things such as this and use waterways to connect mines. The various canals also have minibases with beds to act as spawn points for when I explore farther out. More often than not, these bases are lighthouses so I can spot them from far off.

In minecraft, its right next to this big ass mounting where on the other side the world is split straight down and you could see gold, ruby, emerald, and diamond, as wel as steel and coal.

In pokemon ruby/sapphire, I made them right outside of Forretress City where you can catch absol.

Didn't play Morrowind :(

Minecraft, however, I made my base in a large floating mountain. It has 2 entrances of which one has a trap floor which, when opened, creates a pit of lava (the lever of this is inside my base). May I ever be locked outside by this, there is a second (back)entrance in a small cave near a water spring. If you follow a small path upwards past the river, and follow the river into the cave, you will eventually stumble upon a hidden lever. Pull this lever, and a hidden door will open up for you and the water will stop flowing. Once inside, the opposite can be achieved by pulling the inside lever. The water flow makes sure there are no mobs in the cave whenever I open this from the inside. I added the water after a creeper walked in on me like that (that was a bad day).

My minecraft bases tend to be underground/underwater. Rarely do I make a big one inside of a mountain or such.
I tried making a castle once but I got bored halfway through and ended up with half-finished walls and a lava moat.

Now I'm going for a cathedral-like palace in the middle of a sea with huge waterfall. Let's see how that turns out. I do know how to make cathedrals but this time I want it even bigger!
I'm kinda crazy in MC.

I built a massive 60x60 block fortified manor in Moincroft, complete with a 20 block-high wall and a moat. It also had watchtower that was as tall as it was possible to make it, and the top quarter was covered in glowstone, so it also acted as a beacon for when I was exploring. Then Notch added a map and rendered it completely useless.

In Fallout 3 I tended to carry everything I needed with me and just trespass when I needed to sleep, and murder the owner of the bed if needs be, similar idea in Oblivion.

It really depends for a lot of games. In Minecraft, I built a giant treehouse.

Fallout 3 I usually used a mod to make the Megaton house bigger or took one of the many other awesome house mods out there.

In New Vegas I usually ended up using the Novac apartment because something about it always struck me as being really nice. There was one time I took the presidential suite at The Tops and decorated it with all of the loot I had taken off of the Legion.
