Ah, well, he's entertaining, and usually his criticisms are valid even if I don't agree with them.
For example, I love RPGs, including JRPGs. I also hate FPSes, and respond to them with the same unbridled loathing Yahtzee has for JRPGs. But that's fine. Thing is, by and large he does acknowledge the role of preference. His Mass Effect review concludes 'if you like RPGs and liked KotOR, you'll like this, but if you didn't, you won't'. His The World Ends With You review concluded 'I really don't know how to rate this sort of thing, but if you're into the genre, you may want to give it a try'. In the Brawl mail video he said 'if you genuinely like a game, reviews shouldn't sway your opinion'. I agree with all of that.
So yeah, I don't like Painkiller and thought Portal was nothing but a boring puzzle game. Give me plot! And Yahtzee grants that there are differences in taste. In the Left 4 Dead review, he says 'well, it all depends on what you want out of a game', and indicated that a gamer like me, who loves plot and strategy and utterly hates mindless clickfests should definitely stay away from it.
