Any of the music I get legally, I either get from friends giving it to me, itunes, or buying the CD. I love buying CDs, because then you can display them all for all to see your impressive music collection! Yeah, you can always hand over your ipod to a friend to look over what you have, but I don't think it's nearly as impressive as an entire bookcase of CD's.

CDs only for me. I need to have a physical copy and it's a waste of my money to pay for blank CDs and cases. So pretty much amazon for physical and amazon mp3 for the occasional digital only release. They give free digital credit (usually a dollar) for purchasing physical copies of music from their site, so it's a good incentive to go with them.

I buy at Best Buy because its close to home, but their selection of music is crap anyway, so more than that I go to FYE if I can't find something. If it is a favorite band of mine, I will pre-order mega deluxe special editions from their website over 9000 days in advance.

Also, mp3s suck, I buy CDs for the lossless quality, the artwork, and overall just that feel of physically owning music.

I like to buy CDs when I can, I like to have a physical copy (and I listen to music when I drive, and most vehicles don't have MP3 player jacks). But I've been buying disks less lately because of the extra cost.

When I buy music online, it's usually from Bandcamp.com. Aside from the fact that I listen to a lot of indie music, they don't take any money from the artists. If I'm spending money on music, I want to know most of it is supporting the artist. Buying a CD is alright, but most of the money goes to the label. I absolutely refuse to buy music on iTunes; Steve Jobs takes 30% off the top of every song sold there. I'm not putting that kind of money in his pocket, especially not when my ownership of that music depends greatly upon the continued existance of iTunes.

I pretty much get all of my CD's and on the odd occassion legal downloads from Play.com, good site with reliable service, I'd reccomend them. I swear I'm not a bot.

I buy mp3's on Beatport, breakbeatonline.com, or nubreaks.com and sometimes an occasional CD from Amazon or a local retailer.

Am I the only vinyl nerd here? I buy all of my music on vinyl these days. Either online, in the store or, most frequently, after I´ve been to a show. There´s just nothing quite like the feel and sound of a vinyl. Not saying it´s better per se, but different in a way that´s most appealing to me. Plus, the big cover art of a vinyl just makes them an instant collector's item.

Other than that, I usualy listen to last.fm radio. And admittedly I have quite a huge collection of illegal mp3´s from my days as a broke student. But since I´m busy buying most of it now, I can´t say I feel all that ashamed.

Christ, you lot are purists. How can you stand to have all that stuff lying around and taking up space? I'm seriously considering buying an e-reader just to liberate the massive amounts of space taken up by pulped wood and ink in my room.

I buy cd's more then digital music. Mainly at Walmart or Target. Digital at Amazon, because I don't like itunes. Also, Itunes occasionally.

iTunes is horrible to use and has proprietary formats which I can't play.
You?
huh... weird, i download iTunes music all the time and never really had any trouble with it, what are those "proprietary formats" you speak of, i might be completely ignorant on the subject but have never encountered anything of the sorts...

as my previous response might have suggested, i buy my music on iTunes

Mostly clearbits or jamendo. It's all libre music, so there's no potential issues about copyright, and there's a lot of interesting stuff on there. Much better than most music these days, anyway.

I just listen to Pandora... a lot. Most of the time I'll just buy the hard copy wherever I can find it. I rarely buy digital copies unless I simply cannot find the hard copies anywhere.
