I buy CDs online (amazon, cdjapan, record labels/artists, play-asia) and rip them for easier storage.

iTunes has a fairly good selection too. Would be better if they didn't have individual stores for different regions (seriously, what), but oh well. Haven't seen much of the DRM people are talking about. You get the occasional low bitrate mp3 and other nuisances, but I've never had any trouble with that stuff.

Not many do. Certainly not enough. When my friends try my headphone setup with some lossless files, they're always amazed at how good it is. I think it's lack of exposure that's the problem with it. Most people don't care until they've heard something better... that's how it was for me.

Although one of my friends is completely useless and can't tell the difference between 64kbps MP3 and FLAC on the same song with the same setup. I'm 25% deaf and FLAC is awesome if the song's recorded properly.
Is 64kbps even possible? It must sound like static. I only know one other guy that cares as much about music quality as i do.

Load a file up in Audacity then export at 64kbps.

Actually no, don't put your ears through that. Please.

What a coincidence, we both have Audacity, I wish I could export things in 320 though, it only goes up to 128.

When I buy music I try to get the physical copy when I can, either directly from the band or at a local music store. Occasionally I'll download music legally if that's the only way to get an album that I want to buy, and I usually try to get it as directly from the band as I can. I never use iTunes because it's a such a chunky program to have on my computer (takes a long time to install, updates all of the time, ect.), the limitations on how I can use the music I buy, and that the band gets less money.

Spotify. You get to stream music all free and legal. It only exists in Europe though for the moment.
It's in the US now. :D

But the labels have screwed it over. D:

Anyway, I still love Jamendo.

Grooveshark is great for whenever I just want to find something quickly and listen to it, but if I want to support an artist I generally go to iTunes. As much as I hate Apple, the iTunes store is really well done and easy to use, and more of the money actually goes to the artists.

You do realize that you can easily break the DRM they have, right? They've also added a thing where you can burn your library to disks as a "backup." I haven't had to use it, as I generally remove the DRM, but I imagine it does what it says it does.

I buy CDs and vinyl from the local record store because I prefer to actually own the physical copy because if my hard drive crashes I'd be fucked and lose all my music. I just prefer a hard copy of my music because I feel like people are losing touch with the music, but thats just me. I still find something to be gained from going to the local record store and browsing through the CDs and vinyls than just downloading some MP3s off of iTunes or whatever preferred online store.

I like to go through bargain bins in HMV, or other music shops, and just look for covers or band names that sound interesting. It's how I found out about a band called Starsailor. (The cover was all blue and stuff, I like blue :D)
Thats exactly what I like to do when I go into any music shop. Its how I ended up buying some of the best stuff that I have.

Mostly I purchase it through Itunes, Amazon or in the form of a disk through Best Buy.

I buy CD's on Amazon.com and save them onto my laptop, where I play them on iTunes or my iPod. The CD's are kept somewhere so I have a backup in case something catastrophic happens to those.
