In 50 years, I'll probably still be working despite the fact that I'll be way past 70 then. Retirement will be a privilege for the rich, and half of our country's population will be dead due to the unreasonably high cost of living. Oh, and we'll probably have Chinese overlords. *shrugs* Either way until this country's politics and company CEOs stop being the greedy sons of a bitches that they are this recession's never going to end.

I honestly wouldn't mind if my country (America) got reborn as a new state of government or just radical change in general. I am just sick of the bullshit that comes every time a bill like SOPA or that new defense bill and the public pleads to no avail that they not be dumb as stumps. It's time for a new government, preferably not one where our country is run by rich old guys.
Our system of government isn't at fault. The problem is one of the fundamentals of democracy.
A democracy requires each citizen to be well informed, and to use that information to participate.
Unfortunately we are too lazy to be informed (ask the average person on the street about SOPA) and too lazy to participate (yelling at them after they F**k up isn't enough, so keep them out them out of office.)

The same people keep getting elected to congress because the same people keep voting the same way. Then the congressmen keep messing up because we let them.

In a democracy the only problem is the people.

Also, why is captcha trying to make me read the dragon language?

Well I don't think my country is going anywere so I'll stick around the same coordinates...
I hope for flying cars, jet packs and the other futury stuff but then again 1950 no one could've guessed what 2000 is like so I'll just continue dreaming that I get a hologram watch/computer someday.

Still located off the coast of France I'd imagine..

But I think the UK will be still playing the game of trying to balance the relationships with the US and Europe! Although, one thing is for certain, we will probably still be close with Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

I also think there will be a point in the next century where the UK will have to make a decision of ditching Europe for the US or visa versa, and I also think we will end up on the US side in that scenario!

One thing is for sure though, we will still be traditional Brits, with all our eccentricities! (sp?)

Edit: And most importantly... how could I forget!? Long live King William and Queen Kate!! :D

I see our country very deep in debt from the Carbon tax, which is 15 times higher than Chinas. I can honestly see the country declining on a steep slope
I dont know anything about politics...

but I dont see the carbon tax being around long enough to have a lasting effect 50 years from now..and I have a feeling Gillard isnt going to be prime-minister for very long

looking back now the whole thing seems joke..hence why It somtimes feels pointless to care about politics

worst case scenario perhaps we will be owned by china

Filled more with tourists than people who live here. People seem to love our current government, and I'm no politician so I'm not gonna go throwing out criticism because I have no idea how hard it is, but our Prime Minister seems to be pushing a lot for tourism because it's a massive source of income for us. And we aren't a particularly bad country (even though we have high teen pregnancy rates, binge drinking, smoking, unemployment, all that jazz. But that's just New Zealand, it's part of our charm I guess you could say), it's just that Australia is close and just better than us. Everyone is moving over there to find better jobs, get a better education, all of that. So the combination of those two things, more tourists than residents at any given time (maybe a bit of a hyperbole, but whatever). I'm probably wrong though, I'm hardly qualified to make these sorts of predictions...
Ehh, sure you are.

I do it all the time.

Well I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure:

January 10th 2012 - Ron "Hitler" Paul wins the New Hampshire primary catapulting him into the front runner position.
June 5 - Utilizing strong arm tactics, members of the Ron Paul Chartruce Shirts secure his party nomination.
August 16th - The democrat party calls foul after Ron Paul supporters tar and feather several Obama Supporters during a rally.
October 5th - Under growing pressure from the Occupy Wall Street movement Obama joins into an alliance with the Green Party and various communist factions.
November 5th - Community is renewed by NBC for a fourth season.
November 6th - Dual explosions rock the Reichstag congressional offices. Both sides blame eachother.
December 14th - Massive street riots through the US turn violent with malotov cocktails and heavily armored riot cops.
December 16th - During withdrawal from Afghanistan due to the recent arrests, incompetence leads to the entrapment of 5000 US soldiers in Kabul.
December 17th - Ron Paul is elected the next president of the United States.
December 19th - Nearly 3000 US soldiers have lost their lives as the Taliban over run Kabul. Obama is blamed.
December 21st - Obama calls foul on the electoral progress.
December 22nd - Under anti-terrorism measures Ron Paul declares Obama a terrorist to be held indefinitely without trial.
December 23rd - Obama apologizes for signing that bill into law.
December 25th - Obama crosses the Rubicon with an armed contingent of militant Athiest-Muslim communists and declares a new country, plunging the country into civil war.
2013 January - Arnold Schwarzenegger pulls the sword from the stone in Disney Land, declaring California a sovereign Republic; Oregon, Washington and Hawaii quickly join the West Coast Alliance which declares neutrality. Ron Paul forms the Empire of Texas, forging alliances throughout middle America. General Philip M. Breedlove coups portions of the United States Military forming the Anti-Apocalypse League, and quickly secures all nuclear weapons. Obama forms the Peoples Republic of Obama. Sarah Palin declares Alaska an independent country.
February - NATO expels the US from its organization and together with SEATO lock down the border around the US. Canada invades and takes Alaska; Palin is forced into a boiling pot of oil on state TV.
March - Full military operations begin between the Obama's PRO and Ron Paul's EOT. War rages.
2014 - T-45d power armor development begins in the EOT.
2015 - Armored Combat Suits are deployed by the EOT making steady progress against the human wave attacks of the Peoples Republic.
2016 - Taking advantage of economic problems in Europe, China takes Taiwan and Hawaii. The Westcoast Alliance fleets engage Chinese fleets and the Brotherhood of Pendelton Knights initiate a series of covert operations against Chinese naval bases. China prepares for invasion of the mainland.
2017 - The newly formed Saudi Caliphate destroys Israel, causing another Jewish diaspora. Large numbers of Israeli refugees flee to Wisconsin.
2018 - Community celebrates its 10th year anniversary with a special edition box set. Danny Pudi is voted man of the Year.

2019 - It's preparation complete for invasion of the western seaboard, China uses its economic dominance to enforce obedience from the European Union and the Saudi Caliphate to orchestrate a grab for the US nuclear arsenal as Chinese Marines hit beaches in California. In the ensuing chaos special forces from all factions attempt to secure portions of the nuclear arsenal. In the ensuing struggle missiles are launched all around the world hitting almost at random. Many of the nukes are detonated in orbit by the Anti-Apocalypse League; while this saves many millions of lives it causes a nuclear winter nearly blotting out the sun entirely in a black fog. The massive EMP pulse combined with nuking of key targets shuts down the entire world power grid.

2020 - Foreign planes are no longer sighted along the coasts of the united states. Violence continues to escalate along ideological lines.
2021 - Rebellions throughout the Empire of Texas the the Peoples Republic of Obama fragment the states further. Obama is assassinated by Wisconsin Zionists who place blame for Israels destruction at his feet.
2022 - Canada invades the now nearly entirely unoccupied states of the Mid-West, a guerrilla campaign ensues against their advancing military force. The newly formed LDS Theocracy of Utah invades California and Oregon in order to bring the heathens to light. The Knightly order The Brotherhood of the Pendelton holds their ground against the invaders.
2023 - Unknown radicals(citation needed) target munitions factories. With many of the US intelligentsia dead and resources still being devoted to war the knowledge on how to mass produce such weapons disappears with most available resources spent on farming technology in the harsh conditions.
2024 - The Westcoast Alliance is forced into an ever increasing retreat as the Utah's Zealot corps advance. Implementing harsh laws the Westcoast is able to decrease the population of citizens required to feed their nation by instituting slave labor wherein captured Utah warriors are forced to work in the fish mines of the frozen California coast.
2025 - Few jets and tanks remain operational as technology continues to fail. Bullets run nearly dry, and are only allocated to sharp shooters and officers, with medieval weaponry making a comeback.

2026 - Ron Paul dies of old age. Atrophying Canadian forces are pushed out of the US. Current map of the US. circa 2026:

2027 - The Dakota Khanate invades the LDS Theocracy causing wide spread fear. The Dakota horsemen quickly route the Zealot Corps. The Mexican Empire taking advantage of the chaos invades north into Westcoast Republic lands, taking San Diego quickly with their surprise attack. The masses of Mexican infantry face stiff opposition from the Knights of The Pendelton, but The Empire of Mexico presses on knowing that they need only overload the defenses. The Westcoast President authorizes emergency use of the few remaining jets and tanks. Captured Mexican soldiers are put to work in the great fish mines.

2028 - The LDS and the Westcoast Republic sign a peace treaty. The Westcoast Republic and the Empire of Texas enter into an alliance against the Empire of Mexico.
2029 - The Gynocracy upon word from the great oracle mother invade south so that all those who live in the dark lands to their south may feel the light of the mother. The Gynocracy allows them to live hide there as the minerals they unearth are offered as tribute.
2030 - The Order of the Fox wages a Guerilla war against the Gynocracy. Their holy order dates back to before the war when they were founded by the great prophet O'Reilly. The LDS dissolves and its citizens flee, petitioning the Westcoast Republic for safe harbor. New Zions fleets engage those of the Gynocracy in the great lakes. The Khanate invades the Westcoast with renewed vigor.
2035 - A massive plague wracks Florida and the Empire of Mexico invades north again. This time a weakened Texan Empire and Westcoast Republic lack the means to hold their advance. The Texan Empire collapses the the Holy Knights of Paul flee to their one time allies in the West Coast petitioning for safety and bringing with them the holy Power Armor suits.
2036 - Upon hearing of the invasion, the Mexican slaves of the fish mines rebel, throwing the land into chaos as they hunt their oppressive masters. The surviving Californians flee making their way across the great ice wasteland to their west.

Intellectuals move in ever increasing numbers to the Washington Technocracy which instituted its own system of democracy. Where in the weight of a persons vote was determined by the yearly number of peer reviewed science articles they published. The Dakota tribes finally dissolve from entrenched opposition on all sides and a reliance on raiding to feed themselves.

2057 - Religious tensions between the Israelites and women of the Gynocracy increases to a boil with military factions skirmishing along the border despite orders against it, creating a series of micro-wars.
2058 - Due to ever growing wealth disparities there are increasing disagreements between member states of the Merchant's Alliance. Miami and several other city states with Hispanic heritage petition to join the Mexican Empire.
2059 - War breaks out between the merchant princes and full scale war breaks out between the Gynocracy and New Zion.
2060 - The Empire of Mexico invades north into the weakened countries above it conquering large swaths of land. Finding a common enemy the peoples of the Eastern seaboard unite to fight back but having been weakened find themselves in a losing battle. They petition the Washington Technocracy for aid, which it agrees to.
2061 - Missives between the two groups are intercepted by the Mexican Empire, which is not surprised when Washington invades. Members of the Washington Military, especially those of the 227th Microsoft Brigade fight valiantly. But even with their technology they fight a losing battle.
December 22nd 2062 - Mexican artillery begins to bombard Seattle.
December 23rd - Under increased pressure for a scientific breakthrough that might save the war a group of Washingtonian scientists meet in secret in the basement of the Royal Biology University.

January 8th 2063 - The virus reaches the East Coast.

There ya go, 50 years. Minor inaccuracies are possible... In spelling and grammar I mean. Its 100% spot on in regards to factual content.

A LOT of people are going to be dead. Our infrastructure will have probably dilapidated to the point where roads are useless and buildings are becoming too dangerous to use. This of course, happening after being so deeply in debt that there will never be any hope to repay it all. There will likely be few available jobs, the vast majority of citizens will be living in slums, fending for themselves. If there is a government left, It's power will be enforced through the use of the military. And everyone who had enough money will be hiding in their fortresses of solitude, safely elevated from the putrid, writhing masses of humanity they used as stepping stones. The environment will be unsuitable for growing crops, the air will be dangerously toxic. And after that, I don't know. Probably more of the same for a good amount of time, at least until this planet is rendered completely uninhabitable, and we all die. (USA)

That, or a horrible nuclear war happens, the planet becomes unsuitable to support life, and we all die. Seriously. I have absolutely no anticipation or hope for our future at all. It's not like every single problem we have right now is going to vanish into thin air. And since nobody likes to take responsibility, the blame will just be continually shoved around a circle until it's too late for anything to get done.

I can see Germany being significantly poorer and having a right wing majority. As in, extremist right wing.
I can see the 'poorer' thing, what with our economy mainly being based on exports the rest of the world will be to poor to buy (if things don't improve drastically), but how do you figure the 'extremist right wing' bit? As it stands, those nutjob folks from Antifa and other left wing extremist groups are gaining more and more support, the financial crisis only swelling their ranks, and despite all their proclaimed support of noble goals they mostly exist to spread unrest and torch cars and the occasional police station.

Honestly I see the US here in 40 or so years.

I think this country has become fundamentally broken and only a complete reboot could get us back into good shape. Things like the two party system have to go.

Well, given I'm currently 30, I doubt I'll live to see what Australia will be like in 2062.

To hazard a guess, photovoltaic arrays on every roof, generating a large percentage of the country's power, better recycling, and an end to those hideous power poles.

Impossible to say, heck in 50 years time aliens could have invaded and we'll all either be dead, slaves to the borg queen, or living in a Mass Effect 2 universe.

Ideally speaking, Britain in fifty years time would have a strong manufacturing base in the North as well as a good financial sector in London, making us one of the stronger economies in Europe comparable to Germany. We would have a well integrated, cohesive society (not multicultural in the political sense) and be apart of a wider EU-confederation.

Whilst you can say how you'd like things to be in the future, it's really impossible to say with any accuracy what things actually will be like in 50 years. I would however predict that immigration will have slowed and instead immigrants go to work in burgeoning economies in India, China Brazil and South Africa. I also think that in light of this recession, European governments will have learnt the value of manufacturing goods- perhaps the EU will finally cut CAP and divert those billions of euro's into developing industry in other places besides Germany, so the UK may in 50 years time have a more substantial manufacturing sector.
