Not to push my current state of depression onto anyone else.
But i've been having misconceptions about death recently.
What do all you educated members of the Escapist think happens when one "moves on"?
Please don't use this thread as some kind of vessel to push religious views onto others.
Just except everyone else's opinions.

Tell me, what preconceptions do you actually have?

Personally I have adopted a "I'll find out when I get there" approach. I have too much in my life right now to start wasting time on death.

Thank you.
I have been spending too much time trying to help my clinically depressed friend, which gets very tiresome. He doesn't want to be helped so it isn't easy.

Wander the earth as an ethereal being?
Not really, I have no idea.
My current philosophy is similar to this:

I'd imagine it's like all of your senses shutting down one by one.

Your sight disappears. The dream-like image of the hospital ceiling gradually fades to black.
Your hearing goes numb, dull tone of the heart monitor moving further away, echoing the sound of your own death.
Your taste stops. You used to taste blood on your tongue, but you can't now. You think the blood might be seeping down your chin. You try to taste it, reach it with your tongue, but you can't move it. Something is holding it back.
The clean smell of the hospital gradually fades to nothing.
You try to hold your mouth, to stop the blood flowing, but you feel nothing. You see nothing. You hear nothing. In time, you are nothing.

That was... creepy. And unnecessary.

I'd say it depends on what you did here. I prefer to live as if there is something afterwards, because if there is not, then that would be really depressing. So sue me.

you die, your dead. thats my view. nothing after life, no heaven, hell, valhalla. nothing.
thats my belief anyway, i don't think your soul wanders the earth or anything like that, your existence is wiped from the universe.

Most likely, I'll go to a hospital and have my organs and stuff ripped out for scientific research as to how I took SO DAMN LONG TO KILL.
The three shotgun rounds to your face didn't kill you? I may have to break out the tactical nukes.

Where do we go?

We go into the ground.

I would like to believe in re-incarnation but I think that's just a bit less far-fetched than the Heaven or Hell idea.

But Chuck Norris eats tactical nukes for breakfast.

How is it less far-fetched, lol?

> Our souls go to Heaven for being good, hell for being bad.
> Our souls go into an animal, which dies, then we go somewhere else, in a cycle.

Seems the same, or perhaps more so to me.
