Personally, I'd say Finland. Most of my favourite bands come from there.
After that, Sweden and Norway also produce some awesome metal.
After that... the rest of the world I suppose. I have detected no further pattern.

It's an ongoing battle between the UK and America...see America steals other country's music and makes it their own, then other Americans get pissed about it and try to revamp it as their own, then Britain takes it and makes it good, then America jumps on the band wagon and tries to make it bigger and better. I believe this has happened with blues, jazz to rock, then punk, then trance, the only thing the UK hasn't jumped on is the emo/screamo/pop punk stuff...at least I haven't heard any kinda crappy artist like that from UK.

Most other popular music in other countries is inspired by western pop/rock...however, this does not at all apply to traditional music considering the east (any country/area) has their own defining style. As far as that goes, I'm goin with eastern europe/balkans has the best traditional music.
Music is an ever-evolving and fluid art form.

There is no stealing. Only borrowing and enhancing.

Also emo/screamo/pop punk came from the UK and was popularized in America.

UK borrows the style of American artists all the time. For example, The Heavy.
"good artists copy, great artists steal" I agree with you tho, just love that quote. I kinda feel like it's just passing genres between the 2 until audiences want somethin different.

Then I guess you've never heard of Bring Me The Horizon or Bullet For My Valentine, then?
See I don't really see Bullet for my valentine as emo/screamo, plus I really don't like them. I'm thinkin more like I haven't heard many bands like Further Seems Forever, Dashboard Confessional, or Taking Back Sunday from the Uk that suck as much, usually if I hear a band along those lines, the UK's version is better and more professional, ya know, like they actually care about the music they play.

The best music comes from Earth. I think that's pretty accurate.
I think this pretty much nails it. Until aliens invade and make us rave to their probably awesome dubstep-techno dance music.

The UK, mass manufacture has yet to insidiously creep into all of our genres, where our nearest competitor the US has examples of it everywhere.

Are you joking? America started rock 'n roll and if there are any "thieves" it would most definately be the UK. Just look at Led Zeppelin on of the biggest rock bands to ever come out of UK stole a good number of lyrics and music from America blues guitarists. Theres a big difference between incorporating ideas from other countries music and straight up stealing it.

OT: I think the best music comes from (in no particular order)

-Canada(specifically all the stuff that comes out of Montreal)
-USA
-UK

It seems like these places are where a majority of the music I listen to comes from and thats probably where it comes from for a lot of people. I do have artists from other countries, but even all those added up pales in comparison to the number of artists I have from those three countries.

EDIT: Also, I don't care where music comes from as long as it sounds good to me its just those three places seem to dominate my iTunes library. I never usually bother to argue about which bands or countries have better music because its all subjective. Some people love that super pristine pop music that really has no depth to it because its fun and other people enjoy the music thats not just for the club. I also enjoy a pop song here and there every once in a while I don't seek it out or want to sit down and listen to it in my leisure time, but when its on the radio I have no problem enjoying it.

Instruments, the best music generally comes from instruments. Really though I'm not sure the British, Americans, Scandanavians and the Irish tend to produce my favourite music (not in any particular order of preferance).

The Bay Area. Home of the late great Tupac.
Fuck yea, Bay Area is great. Hell, entire west coast spawned nearly all of my favorite artists: TOOL, Tupac, Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine, Eazy-E, Metallica, Pearl Jam, etc.

Honestly, America makes the best (90's) music.

No... everyone knows aliens love country music. That's why they keep leaving their markings in farmer's fields in the South.

Or maybe they like the Swing style lounge, as the only documented settlement (lol) is so close to Vegas.

Country-wise, it's tough. I've heard some amazing orchestral stuff come out of Japan, but it's pretty evenly spread between there, the US, the UK, and Germany.

Given, I listen mostly to orchestral, which isn't really mainstream anywhere, so it's hard to nail down major locations.

1. Norway
2. Sweden
3. Germany
4. Austria
5. Hungary
6. Italy
7. The U.K.
8. Canada
9. Romania
10. USA

List compiled of all the music that I find pleasing to listen too, too many genres to pin-point but... yeah, almost everything. Except modern-day popular music (modern radio-pop/r'n'b)... Good Lord, I loathe it..

I've found that the best metal mainly comes from Scandinavia (particularly Finland and Sweden), Russia, Germany and Serbia. So yeah, mainly Europe.

If you held a sharpened spoon to my head and demanded I pick one country, it'd have to be the United States, as it's the home of so many classic thrash bands. We do well given our small size here in the UK though, especially if you broaden the search beyond my preferred metal to things like pop and rock.

Chicago at one point in time, later on Detroit. Nowadays nothing's quite as exciting as the music produced during those eras.
