This thread just blew my mind. I'm not a huge Zelda fan, having only really played and enjoed OoT and WindWaker, and I just kind of figured that it's a series that repeats themes and characters in a never ending cycle sort of like Dark Souls. There will always be a Link and there will always be a Gannon and a Zelda that coexist with him.

Off Topic: I lost my N64 in a house fire. My Wii U may or may not function as I haven't tried it out yet, but I'm getting the itch to play OoT now. Nostalgia wants me to buy a new N64 but I know it's available as digital for the Wii U. Anyone have experience with the digital Nintendo games? I've never bought one before.
fuck digital.

physical disc/cartridge Master Race.

that goes for all companies. not just Nintendo. :3
I mean.. If I had a digital copy it wouldn't have been burnt up and I wouldn't have to buy it again so... Different strokes for different folks.

Depends on when you lost it. Nintendo, until recently, tied digital purchases to the physical console. Lose the console, lose the games.

I guess that just gets added to the alarmingly long list of Nintendo's ridiculous business decisions.

better than your digital account becoming corrupted and losing literally everything.

who's to say your xbox and playstation accounts won't get banned and/or corrupted?

Are you seriously implying that losing my digital games is worse than having my house burn down? .

I have neither of those, and even if I did, in what world do you live in that your digital accounts mysteriously get banned/corrupted inexplicably?

Even if an account is "corrupted" there's a chance of contacting whatever manufacturer or company it is associated with and finding some recompense or having it reinstated. If a physical good is destroyed you have no choice but to buy it again.

It's clear you're a big fan of Nintendo but don't let that cloud your judgement.

if your house burnt down, your collection of vidya games would be one of the last things i'd be worried about...

what i meant was having one game be burnt, or lost or destroyed is better than your entire digital account be corrupted and losing every game.

Are you even reading my posts? My house did burn down. As in, there was a fire that consumed my possessions. Now I have to choose between a digital copy or buying a new N64 and all of the relevant games again. If I had a digital collection that would not be the case because it would be stored on my account which would not burn up in the fire. Unless of course, as another poster said, you are Nintendo and tie purchases to a console instead of an account. Do you see what I'm saying?

And you don't "accidentally cheat". Cheating is an active decision that you make with full knowledge that you relinquish the right to your games if you get caught.
oh please. yeah cheating in a game, fair enough to get banned for that.

it was fair enough of Nintendo to give me a warning for swearing on Miiverse.

when i've had infractions for things such as as when i shared my 3DS Friend Code with someone via miiverse so we could trade pokemon with each other, now that sort of shit is just bullshit and fucked up on Nintendo's part.

what the hell is the bloody point of having a friend code if i can't share it and add friends with it Nintendo huh?

And I'm pretty sure a Miiverse ban only stops you from posting to Miiverse, and doesn't lock your games.
if you get permabanned on miiverse and get another miiverse infraction on the same console i know for a fact that Nintendo will block your console from the internet entirely.

Again, you don't get permabanned accidentally... You may get suspended accidentally (but even that comes with multiple warnings), being permabanned requires you to make conscious decisions.

And are you sure that they ban the user from the internet entirely? and not just Miiverse entirely.

The wiki states:

Console Bans are a type of ban users can get on Miiverse. If the user continues to violate the Code of Conduct, (or not) and repeatedly gets banned (normally must be Permabans, but can be just Temporary bans) on other accounts, the admins will strike a console ban. Console bans limit the user's actions by locking the Wii U or 3DS's serial number, resulting in the permanent restriction of Miiverse from the device. If you try to access Miiverse with a console banned Wii U or 3DS, it displays "Error-Code: 115-1009 Miiverse functions aren't available on this console." and closes.
Either way, you won't lose all of your games unless you are making a conscious decision with the knowledge that the actions you are taking are suspending your right to access the online functions of a console.

There's very little risk to buying digital games unless you're doing things that you KNOW you shouldn't be doing.
you won't lose your games but you lose all internet action with them because of the Console Ban

So.. You don't lose your digital games..
So... I wouldn't be able to play games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros and the entirely online focused Splatoon, online anymore because of the whole no internet access thing... but whoopdee effing doo! that's A-OK because at least i'll still have the games themselves digitally, i just won't be able to use the whole main important feature on them or anything anymore but who cares? i'll still at least have the base copy on my account!

Not trying to come off as angry towards you or anything. just trying to get the point across that online focused games like those ones i mentioned essentially become completely useless if something like a Console Ban ever happens. not to mention alot of your online focused 3DS games will suddenly become useless as well if your 3DS and Wii U share the same NNID accounts

Yeah, I'm going with the majority and say it's probably after Wind Waker. But OPs idea that it could be between OoT and WW sounds a bit weird. So, we'd play a game where we eventually lose? I admit, the player losing in the end is not necessarely a bad idea to explore, but could you imagine the amount of butthurt fans?
No, Link losing is what creates the timeline leading up to Wind Waker. You never actually lose in game, it's just about plot correction since no-one could really piece together anything better that would explain all games.

Zelda doesn't have a timeline.
this if Zelda or Mario have a timeline they should get older and older but they never does Nintendo live in a fantasy world for Zelda and Mario maybe for Kriby too
Most Zelda games feature a new hero. The Link in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask is the same. I think the Link in Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass is the same too, not sure about other games. His age also changes from game to game, but it's generally between 9 and 19. Sorry for ruining your criticism by facing it with facts.

It's like real life. If you can't play nice with those in society then you'll be jailed and ostracized from society. Ban deserved IMO if someone chooses to do such things.
banning the account and the digital games tied to that account is fair enough

but banning the entire console and EVERY other account and other console that's linked to it is pretty stupid though imo.
