Retail sucks. Food service sucks. Get a job working construction. You'll make way more money. You'll learn some valuable skills. You'll build some muscle mass and real world strength.
But isn't it kinda dangerous?

I'm 16 and I need a job. Can anyone tell me the best place to apply. It would also be nice if I was able to apply online.

If I do get a job my mother would be forced to allow me to drive. I have my license, but she still says I'm not good enough.

Edit: I live in America.
Even if you can apply online, I would recommend applying in person if possible, it shows more interest even if you are just going in to physically hand over a resume instead of mailing it if you have one. If you don't want to trawl all over the place asking for work, it is also good to call rather than apply online, then organize a meeting to discuss working for them.
I know you might be nervous of doing such, or just want the easiness of applying online, but the personal touch really helps. Besides practice for job interviews is always a good thing, you wont get away without one later in life and it will be alot more casual and comfortable now.

stay in school, stupid

work at a grocery store and you'll see why i make the above suggestion.
I think he is talking part time, and really anyone who doesn't have part time work during school on their resume is going to be severely disadvantaged.

Anywhere, really. My two friends were looking for a job (we're 16, but we are allowed to have some jobs, depending who is the employer), and couldn't find anything.

Maybe it's age, but I don't plan on finding a really awesome job at first. I would, however, recommend going to a library. Not only an easy job (as long as you have a working brain), but you get to read books AND THEY PAY YOU FOR IT. Win-win scenario.

Ahh, good times at 16... In the US, I have more of a general guideline than just one location.

If you're capable, and more importantly if you have an "in" try to do construction this summer. As others have said, it can be quite worth it... though I always knew the guys I worked with before hand, so your luck may vary.

Other than that... my main advice is to avoid a corporate chain and find a smaller, possibly family run business. They may not have all of the perks, but usually they put more of an emphasis on their employees and are more lenient. This isn't always the case, but in my experience this was a lot of fun.

Possibly start off in a local restaurant as a busboy and in the interview let them know you'd like to be a waiter after a bit of experience. Waiting tables is such a good job for someone that age, I can't recommend it enough. Good luck!

=P Don't forget a resume too.
If it's your first job and you're in high school, how can you have a resume?
You just write random bullshit... like keywords and how hardworking/friendly/ etc you are. They actually have a mandatory Careers class in grade 10 in Canada in which they pretty much go over all that.
I wish I had one of those.

Whoring your self is a good way to earn money, drop by your local clergy to get some reliable customers. If that doesnt work out then try a corner store, fast food joint, or grocery store.

I've had a full-blown professional resume since I was about 14. I'm 16 now, and it's a page of awesome goodness.

That's where I *hope* I start my first job. Good god I don't want to go work at a fast-food restaraunt. Maybe I'll work at a zoo.. Yeah, a zoo would be nice. I like animals, especially dogs.. I like dogs... Pretty.. Little.. Doggy..
