Where should the Metal Gear franchise go now?

Following the epic ending to the tale of the Snakes in mGS4 only one nagging question remains Where to now? Will the series end and never again be touched? or will Kojima pull a magical and shiny new tale of tactic and military conspiracy right out of his ass? What do you think? I personally I don't know.

I think 4 is where they should end it. It was suck for such an iconic franchise to grow stale.

I dunno, I think the style of MGS is a product of the PS1/PS2 era and probably will only meet with scorn in this instant gratification gaming age we live in.

My favourite character in the MGS franchise is the Boss from MGS3. So I'd love a game about her but seeing as the Shagohod was the first metal gear, it's unlikely for a MGS game to be set pre-MGS3.

True, but if they did do a pre-MGS3 game it could be set in WW2 as The Boss and the rest of the Cobra Unit, a hybrid of MGO, MGS4 gameplay and MGS Portable Ops (the recruitment of soldiers intregal to your squad on occasion).

I think they've pretty much wrapped up the storyline. This is the problem with story based games. When the story ends, it's pretty much time to call it for the series.

That said, since they will be bringing it back, I guess I'd hope for either another prequel or a 3D remake of the original Metal Gears.

Yeah, but an updated version with more character selection (and other stuff like that) as a stand alone for about $30.

Unlesss the (hypothetical) new Metal Gear titles take place a long time after the Solid series, or take place as though the Solid story never happened, then I'd say the Metal Gear series needs to stop at MGS4.

I'd kinda like to see what happened to Raiden between 2 and 4. Other than that I believe the series is complete.
