We are the nicest fucking people on the planet you bastard, and if you think any different I'll cut you with a Molson bottle.
I absolutely love the irony in this statement.
Anyways, I live near Toronto and I find stereotypes to be silly. But living here for all my life, I can see why that stereotype came into fruition.
In my personal experiences, the people here are seriously nice, but there's always a few exceptions. And again, that's normal, not because we live in Canada.
So the stereotype mostly comes from Canada being multicultural and more 'open' to immigration, as well as the emphasis on peace keeping and being diplomatically sound. Despite being involved in wars and the like, we apparently still uphold this image.
Statistically, Canada is also keeping a low profile on the 'bad' side of things. For example, obesity rates are much lower, with about 30% of adults being obese. And on the good side, Canada's video game industry is growing
very fast (I read some articles but can't remember them anymore)
Let's not forget that having a much lower population does allow a nation to keep a lower profile and all. Naturally, less people = less representation MOST of the time.
Lastly, I don't want to get into too in-depth analysis for fear of starting flame wars, but you really can't argue against our health care system (Not saying it is better, what I mean is it helps uphold the 'nicer, less selfish' stereotype). It simply benefits everyone more, while other systems tend to lean towards the higher classes.
