Where should #4 sit?
In Soviet Russia. Every game placed in Soviet Russia is automatically 140% better ! ;)
But we already have Stalker.
Are you implying that one game per setting is enough ?
Obviously not, don't be absurd!....... We have Metro 2033 as well!
So you're implying that the quantity of games taking place in same/similar setting is somehow limited ?
No, I'm not even being really serious. Just joking.
Motherland it is then !
Rejoice Comrade, we'll teach the rest of world the true meaning of Nuclear Holocaust ! ;)

I'd like to see a Fallout game set in Los Angeles. I know that's the Boneyard from first Fallout, but how cool would it be to revisit Los Angeles on systems we have today?

There's still the problem that most places in Russia were probably nuked during the great war.

No worries Komrade !
The Motherland is a vast land and no amount of imperialistic nukes will destroy all of it. We have whole cities that even our great leader Tsar Vlad "The Mad" knows nothing about. We have underground bases and labyrinths. We have flying city called "Novaya Ziemlia", we even have great, shiny orbital station known as "Pride of Stalin".

There always will be a place for true sons of Red Star to live !

Now, that we talk about it, i recall one novel... I forgot its name but it described East vs West war scenario during which Russians used "conventional" nukes, and USA some strange weapon that killed only people but left structures intact.

So, USA was burned to the ground and Americans simply moved to Russia and lived there. And, with time conquerors learned Russian language and eventually became Russians themselves. It proves that The Soviet Union will always win ! ;)

Ahem... ;)

Somewhere in central USA perhaps? Also maybe much earlier than previous games?

For me, Fallout needs to step back. Its built up the NCR and the west coast a lot. Perhaps its time to leave it be. Otherwise it will soon become a franchise without a wasteland. So my request to Fallout is: Go back, turn back the clocks to 2100's or very early 2200's. Move away from the coasts and the big factions already built up and start again. Make the wasteland more dangerous and deadly, more of a challenge. Make radiation more prevalent and dangerous. The Mojave desert in F:NV was (in my mind) too similar to the expanses and plains of New Austin in Red Dead Repemption.

Maybe set it in a city? The ruins of DC made a brilliant battleground between man, mutant and everthing in between without comprimising the sense of exploration.
The franchise never really relied on the wasteland. It relied on gameplay, story, and isnt critique of human nature. The wasteland is practically irrelevant. Especially since reforestation has been around for over a century. Besides, just because we have civilization doesn't mean it has to be boring. Any look in a history book will tell you that.
I would never suggest sacrificing gameplay or story in Fallout, or any game. I merely stated what the franchise was to me and how I would like to see the establishment of a post-apocalyptic society as part of a Fallout game.

I never said civilization was boring, I merely thought it might be a good idea to step back from the established parts of Fallout and make something completely new somewhere else in America.

This must be the third or fourth time we've had a discussion in a Fallout forum, I look forward to the next encounter as I find your perspective on Fallout interesting.

Australia. Best thing is, since its already mostly desert full of giant animals wanting to kill you they won't have to use much imagination. Just send one of those robots out with a camera and put it directly into a game.
That's Borderlands

Oh crap I just found the "isnt critique" part. I meant to say it IS a critique. I didn't catch that while editing it.

However, the factions themselves are spread pretty far. A lot of the west coast influences spread west, especially since NCR got pretty far. It wasn't until recently when caesar's legion started pushing the NCR back.

The majority of the west coast is covered by tribals retreating from civilization, and countries trying to reclaim land. Ironically, both sides encompass an entire commonwealth. That leaves about 11 unclaimed commonwealths left in America.

So trying to run away from West Coast influence is pretty impossible. It extends as far as Chicago.
Thats why I suggested turning the date back too, theres a lot of interesting stuff that can go on. A particular point I like is perhaps going back to the time when the first Vaults opened, your idea it's a critique on human nature would be a great thing to explore with this sort of point. How would Vault Dwellers cope with early life in the wasteland? Whats their reaction to people from other Vaults? Theres a lot of interesting ideas at any point in the Fallout timeline but a community stepping out of the vault and into the unknown wasteland is one I feel could be explored.

I think Fallout such as it is should stay in the US. If we ever move to other Places, say Europe or China, it should be a spin-off, one which isnt technically part of the established Canon at all but rather a View from the other Side as it were. So a Fallout 4, or 5 if you're being very specific, should be set somewhere in the US or close to it, so Canada which was annexed or Mexico which is close to it probably arent ruled out.

What i'd like to see is a change in scenery, no desert or just brown wasteland. Everglades would be nice, swamps, forests, full of mutated Creatures, degenerated Hillbillies ala Point Lookout might be nice.

Or set it specifically inside a City and do away with "small Settlements". Imagine a Gameworld as large as New Vegas, but its just one giant City. Chicago would be a nice Idea, given the Lore gives some specifics to that place, ED-E for example, or the somewhat canon Fallout Tactics. Or maybe take some Cues from the Van Buren design documents and set it in/around Denver. Think The Pitt on a grand scale.

Anyway in general there are lots of Places left, but i'd prefer the next Title being set not just in the Wasteland, well, in a different Terrain anyway, we've seen enough Desert and Brown already at this Point.

Definently Australia
You never heard what happened there in the lore and you would be double fucked cause everything there was already able to kill you before the bombs hit and everything got mutated, and death-claws would become the lesser enemies in the face of the mutated kangaroos that bolt up to you fast and tear you asunder with its spiky feet and tail and even when it dies you still have the joey in its pouch to deal with
I would have to be in either the Northern Territory or Sydney so the main antagonist could build a giant oversize comical laser that's been concealed in Uluru or in Sydney the Brotherhood of steel have there major base in the Opera House and the Harbor Bridge has become a constant battlefield between raiders and NCR

I hope some place, not in America I'd love to see how the rest of the world fared but alas this will not happen.
They died. That's it, there is nothing. The vaults were made only in America and were built to do human experiments, as they never thought a nuclear fallout would have actually happened.

Europe and rest of the world blew themselves to hell even before US and China nuked it out one last time and then that blew up the rest of the world again.

People don't seem to understand that lots of what made Fallout, Fallout would be lost when going to other countries and plus it would break canon.

I vote the midwest. It will look even MORE like the wild west than New Vegas did.
Just as long as they add horses for travel (mutated or otherwise), a poncho, and a Colt revolver. Then, I could fulfill my dream of being either the Man with No Name or Colonel Mortimer (both from the Dollars Trilogy)

This is probably the greatest thing I have ever heard. EVER. They need to make this... now.

I don't care, I just want it to be done by Obsidian :(. Bethesda games are great and all but fallout New Vegas was FAR superior to fo3. I just prefer a story driven game to a game that focuses on exploration.

If it is made by Bethesda; it will be set on the east coast.

If it is made by Obsidian; it will be set on the west coast/midwest.
